The promised semi view was the kitchen roof and trash dumpsters.

The door to our room was broken and we couldn’t get back in to our room or dog until midnight; it took three engineers and two staff members to gain entry. It seems that the door battery had been installed upside down making it very difficult to remove and re-intall properly. We were already tired from a six hour drive and an 80th birthday party that evening; we were not happy guests!

Traveler's tip

Ask for specifics when the room has a limited view.

great getaway

Took my husband to Ventana Canyon for his birthday. We spent most of the day by the pool. Excellent cocktail and food service. Had cool towels for our faces (109 that day)and poolside activities and treats. Room was extremely comfortable with nice ammenities. Staff very helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

Need to refresh customer service techniques

The bellmen(we dealt with three) did not bother to discuss hotel amenities while taking us to a room several hundred yards from the front door--(and this was a Gold Hyatt reward upgrade!). We (three women--not too young) had to request help with aspects of the room. The other two bellmen were no better. We will not go back.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Skip Phoenix. Go south to Tuscon or north to Sedona. The drives worth it.

Another very nice stay

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this resort and enjoyed it as much as the first. It has the most attractive grounds and common spaces I’ve yet to find in a resort in Tucson while maintaining a low-key feel. I’ve also found the food and drink, while expensive in line with typical resort prices, to be uniformly excellent.

Great hotel and great location

The hotel may be a bit older than some other resorts in Tucson (built in the 80’s), but it is extremely well maintained, the rooms are nicely updated. The staff was wonderful, much better service than you get at some other resorts. The resort is very family friendly. The pools could be a bit bigger, the main pool was crazy with kids, but try out the adult pool if you want quiet.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask for a room that overlooks the waterfall, we overlooked the city. It was nice, but the waterfall side of the hotel is really beautiful. The adult pool is a nice escape if you don’t have kids. For local attractions, try taking the shuttle up to Sabino Canyon, it is beautiful. Try La Encantada for restaurants, North was great. The patio at the Flying V restauarant on the resort is also very nice.

A Welcome Oasis

My wife, daughter, brother-in-law, and nephew stayed at the Loews Ventana for four nights and three days to attend a graduation. We thoroughly enjoyed the treatment we received and the accommodations! Staff members were friendly, helpful, and courteous, anticipating our every need. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone who is going to Tucson!

Would Stay again

Our room was beautiful. The view...not so much but you get what you pay for. Staff was polite and helpful, the room was very comfortable and the rounds are gorgeous.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You would certainly want to rent a car to be able to see the sights. Kartchner Cavern is well worth the 40 min. drive. Buy tickets on line ahead of time and don’t pay for parking. La Fuente has the best mexican food.

Peaceful and relaxing

This Ventana Canyon resort offered beautiful views of the city and the desert, a nice balcony, activities such as nature walks, movies at the pool for children in the evening, storytelling at the waterfall, etc. We used the workout facility, the driving range, and the tennis courts and found all to our satisfaction. They have a wonderful Sunday brunch outdoors with live music and great food. Rooms were comfortable and clean, staff was friendly, and we would definately return. It is a little far from the air port and from town but there is a great shopping and dinning area about two miles if you want to leave the resort.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

We traveled with two teenage boys who wanted to golf. In Tucson at a private course greens fees started at around $200.00 each, plus club rental. We opted to hit balls at the driving range instead for only $15.00, use of cart, unlimited clubs, balls, and time. It was great.

not so great

The room was fine for a short stay, however, the workout facility is outdated and in need of a major overhaul.

Incredible view so romantic yet in touch with nature

I was in Tucson to do some cycling. Never expected this hotel to be so nice. Great friendly staff, awesome pool, restaurant, bar. All rooms with a great view of the city, this hotel is at the foothills of the Catalinas. The first thing I did was go to the balcony and admire the view. Highly recommended.

Superior destination resort

Two challenging golf courses in magnificent condition. Breakfasts and lunches are high quality; dinners are less so and can be overly pricey. Le Rendez-Vous restaurant off premises is a brilliant break from the Hotel’s standard fare.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Arizona Desert Museum is particularly worth the 45 minute drive.

Beware! Barking dogs!

First room had view of parking lot, loud wedding revelers and barking dog in nearby room. Moved to room with nicer view but too close to pool & loud music, and more nasty little yapping dogs. Also, spa and restaurants, even casual ones, were ridiculously expensive. Georgeous setting, but why are people compelled, and allowed, to bring their "accesory dogs" on vacation with them? Kept fantasizing about coyotes getting them...

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Desert museum is not to be missed!

A Desert Retreat

Captivating surroundings and comfort would make me want to go back again. The spa is a definite bonus. Even though it rained part of our stay, the heated outdoor pool and hot tub made swimming enjoyable regardless of the rain.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Take time to visit the Desert Museum.

Beware of late night check-ins!

This is a beautiful property and setting! My biggest complaint was the late night check in. I had spent time on the phone weeks prior to my visit to avoid any snags when checking in knowing that at 1:00am in the morning I would be tired. Unfortunately it did not seem to help and that was frustrating to say the least! I had also asked for a certain view and room and that was not honored until I mentioned it, which took even longer to get worked out! My check-in took over an hour and that was not a good beginning for me. The rest of my stay was lovely and even with cloudy, rainy and cooler weather I enjoyed the Tucson scenery! One other thing which I mentioned at the front desk was the shower doors! They are thick heavy glass and there is only one, so moving them is almost awkward, dangerous and water comes out on whichever side is open! It really is odd and I asked them if it was always that way and they said yes! It’s a european style that they were convinced would be a good choice! Not in my opinion!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you are a hiking fan you should definitely check out the trail that is adjacent to the property! It is challenging and if the weather is good, a lot of fun and very beautiful! Bring a camera for some great photography! Also because it is a higher altitude and quite dry bring lots of water to stay hydrated both during your hike and throughout your visit.

Beautiful setting

The hotel was in a gorgeous setting, with walks going up to the walls of Ventana Canyon. Every effort was made to preserve the Sonoran desert right up to the hotel building. If you have a ground floor exterior room, make sure no toads or lizards follow you inside! We saw coyote and javelina on the resort grounds. The rooms were comfortable, and the tub could even accomodate four people! The mini-bar fridge was barely cool, but the lobby bar was wonderful (and most things were cheaper than in the mini-bar!) Right on the grounds of the hotel was the trailhead leading into Ventana Canyon for those who are serious hikers. The Ventana Room, Tuscon’s only 5 Star restaurant was simply amazing, and well worth the price (with prix fixe dinners starting at $89.) The "Blues, Brews, and Barbecues" Sunday brunch was fine, with amazing selections, especially seafood and desserts, but the ribs were too tough (and I like chewy ribs, rather than fall-off-the-bone fare.) Even in the first week of November, on some days the pool was just too hot from the sun!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you like hiking and seeing natural beauty, you must go to the Chiricauhas, Mt. Lemmon, Madera Canyon, and Saguaro National Forest. Also check out the Nature Conservancy’s Sonoita-Patagonia Creek preserve in Patagonia. Then you can take a primitive road through Box Canyon about 18 miles to the Madera Canyon area.

Great stay!

Beautiful hotel! Excellent service! A bit far from the University of Arizona, but worth the ride.
