"Great Hotel, Not so Great Service"
Overall the hotel was fantastic -- we got a great deal on the room and it ended up being a bargain vacation. However, the front desk staff was not very warm and was not really trying to please. On the last day, we had requested a late checkout and they told us our checkout would be 1pm. So at 12:40 as we went back to the room, we found that our hotel key had already been invalidated. We walked across the hotel, went down to the front desk, waited on line for more than 5 minutes and they reactivated the key. We returned upstairs only to find that they hadn’t done it properly. We went back downstairs, waited on an even longer line again (they saw us in line yet didn’t help us), and reactivated the key AGAIN. By this time, it was nearly 1:15. Clearly, we were not going to be out of the room by 1. So we start packing up, and taking quick showers. At 1:45, a girl from the front desks knocks on our door and basically tells us we need to leave RIGHT THEN. She was very rude and difficult, and seemingly unaware of the half hour we spent trying to get into the room. We informed her of this and she told us we had 5 minutes. Basically, it was just rude. The people at the desk were not pleasant but the facilities were fantastic, the shuttle service was very timely, and everyone else we encountered was very accommodating. I would definitely return and hope that I just didn’t have to deal with the front desk staff.
There were a bunch of great wineries in the area. The food and wine at Heritage Trail Vineyards was fantastic and the service was great. Also, Foxwoods has hiking and walking trails that are definitely worth the stroll.
