Great place.
The hotel and staff were great, lots of food for every taste and there was enough to do to keep 3 teens busy. Unfortunately it rained a lot during our stay, we ended up eating and drinking more than snorkeling and laying on the beach. The snorkeling is excellent, lots of tropical fish and interesting reef. The beach is rocky but there are some parts where you can swim ok (good snorkeling = bad swimming). Pool, beach and grounds were all huge and immaculate. We visited Xel-ha previously and should have gone there again, it is great fun, especially if you have kids any age. Since it was raining we got talked into going to Akuten Chen which was no nearly as good. If you have a choice, go to Xel-ha.
Bring your own snorkel gear. Hotel gear is limited use and you have to go through the same paperwork every day, much better to get your own. Cancun Express offers excellent and cheap service from the airport. Bring bug spray.

Great Time
The hotel is an hour away from the airport but worth the drive as you are close to the ruins, and Playa Del Carmen which is a must see! We reserved a room at the tropical but it was closed and they put us in the colonial which was fine minus the musty smell in the room. Other than that the room was very clean. The grounds are beautiful, the food was great minus the Italian restuarant, and the swim up bar bartenders were very cool. Be sure to order a banana republic drink!! only disappoint was the lack of nightlife, it gets quite after 8.

beautiful resort,slow time of year ,excellent service,awesome...Big Beach
the end of october is a great time to go to the riviera maya.it is their slow season... so you get better deals and better service!!
