It was a great hotel experience.
Wonderful hotel, but not happy with the location. Probably would not choose to stay there again based solely on that factor, opting instead for one closer to the river.

Stay somewhere else- just awful hotel.
Despite more than 1 email confirming both dinner and reserv. prior to our trip, we were NOT notified AT ALL that the entire city center would be CLOSED that night for their annual celebrations of Aug 20th. The ONLY reason we made it was for some friendly police officers at a gas station who gave us a new route to our hotel. Traffic was backed up for miles in a thunderstorm. Upon arrival, we asked if we could still dine at the NY Cafe restaurant, as late as we were. Oh yes, they are open until 11! When we came back down to the cafe at 10:40pm, and given our first NO of many at Boscolo. We relayed what the Concierge had told us, the hostess rolled her eyes, we were given a "bar food" menu, and seated in a smoke-filled room. After complaining, they offered to make something modest. The food was so bad, I couldnt eat my lukewarm pasta at all. 3 "chicken ceasars" served with sliced turkey used for sandwiches, and 4 awful pasta dishes later, we were given a bill for $169 for the 4 of us. We found that "no" is a favorite word amoung the staff at Boscolo. Dont stay here. The friendly bellboys are the one positive here. Location is bad. Stay at the Four Seasons, a REAL palace- a MUCH better location & service.
Traveler's tip on dining
Dont bother with the Boscolo NY "Palace" Cafe. Service is non-existant. Food is overpriced and was awful for us anyway. Eat at Pava - the Fine Dining Restaurant in the Gresham Palace Four Seasons on the water, or at Central Kavahaz for a tasty meal thats a great value. The service is SO much better at this little Cafe. The Boscolo NY Cafe is totally filled with smoke as well, so dont count on finding a non-smoking section.

Beautiful new hotel, with some quirks to work out, but surely one of the best in Budapest
The lobby, hotel, cafe, & restaurant are beautiful. The service was pleasant & attentive. They are shooting for the best in town, evidenced by the very high rates, for this I am critical. The check in circular desk with laptops is awkward. No business center. Room decor is beautiful but storage space is meager, shower was extremely tight (barely able to turn around) bathroom shower fixtures were cheap and already damaged, some insanity had them chose 32" tube TV (not LCD) sitting on the desk with poor viewing from bed or chairs. Internet (not wireless)is about $30/day, minibar is extra (at these prices why nickle & dime them for cheap extras). The spa missed the mark, with a space age decor between cool and cheesy but nothing like the grandior of the hotel.
Traveler's tip on dining
The New York Palace has a magnificient cafe and restaurant. The prices for the cafe are on par with the setting & the food is good. The restaurant is on the lower level in the same open space but prices are high with entree in the $40-60 range - so I didnt eat there. Unfortunately smoking is allowed everywhere, largely the reason I could not eat there, having a $200-$300 dinner for two ruined by smoke. (I live in New York with excellent restaurants and no smoking in all 28.000 of them.)
