Affordable alternative in a spendy part of Montana
The Hibernation House is probably best suited to skiers, since you have to climb up to the mountain to get to it. So it’s not particularly convenient to anything else. That being said, I was amused that my room had two bunk beds as well as my queen bed, and I can see it working well for families that don’t want to pay exorbitant hotel prices when they’re going to be spending the day on the slopes anyway. The staff was exceptionally courteous for my visit, and I’d return if I had a reason to be up the mountain in the summer.
Traveler's tip on dining
When in Whitefish, I eat where the locals eat: at Loula’s on Rte. 2 just down from the light where Hwy 93 and Hwy 2 meet, before you cross Veteran’s Bridge. It’s in the basement and has a great breakfast and lots of local art on the walls.
