Affinia Dumont

Clean, relatively inexpensive, extremely well located. I would recommend it wholeheatedly if it were not for the considerable noise of the air conditioning system that prevented sleep.

Would Stay Again!

Second trip to NYC and would stay here many more times! One complaint was the smell of their cleaning agents was very strong in the room--but atleast reassuring that things were cleaned!! Everything else was great...and try the Barking Dog!

Can’t wait to go back!

I stay at Affinia Dumont as often as I can when I visit NYC. Front desk is helpful, room is extremely spacious, overall service is attentive and yet discreet. Good neighborhood and away from all the noise and buzz. Hotel is operated under great management and dedicated staffs. A real gem in New York City.

Great 10 day stay

The staff was very warm with their greetings from the desk, bellmen, concierge, and maid. Had a corner room on the 27th floor with views of the Crysler building out one window and the East River out the other.

Traveler's tip on dining

The Barking Dog was a really good place to eat. Convenient, selection, quality and price. The owner spent a lot of time there greeting customers and making sure things were going well. The staff was promot, curteous, and efficient.

Great, Great Stay

My fiancee and I selected this hotel based on the majority of other reviews. We were not disappointed. This is the perfect hotel for anyone who wants to have a good time in NYC, but does not want to put up with the noise and hectic nature of Times Square. It is in a residential area of the city, so you get the best of both worlds--local living and, of course, the big city which is just a short taxi ride away. Empire State Building is just down the street, as are the bus tours. There is a Dunkin Donuts right next door for your morning coffee and bagel. I recommend the one-bedroom suite...so nice to come back from day-long sightseeing to a huge, clean suite. The staff were all very cool. Thanks to Dave, the concierge, for telling us how to use the subway and whatnot. We can’t wait to go back.

Traveler's tip on dining

You must eat at the Barking Dog. Great salsa.

Very nice hotel

We were very pleased with our stay at the Affinia Dumont. We had a kitchen in our room and took advantage of shopping at the excellent Murray Hill Market to cut dining costs. It’s only a few blocks walk to the 33rd St. station which is one stop from Grand Central. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Nice Hotel, location was okay

Pros: * Room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. * The staff were very pleasant * If you enjoy working out, the fitness and weight-lifting facility was the best Ive seen at a hotel * Charming market on the corner - (Murray Hill Market). Great place to grab an inexpensive breakfast or lunch on the go. Cons: None as far the the hotel are concerned. Only issue was the location of the hotel if you choose to utilize the subway as your primary mode of transportation. If you were looking to spend a lot of time in Midtown or the West-side there’s a lot of walking and transfers to be had. At times it can be exhausting.

Excellent Spot

Had a junior suite on 28th floor overlooking the river, was an excellent view. Staff very friendly and accomodating, kitchenette was a nice thing to have for an extended stay. Location is great, most things in walking distance, Empire State building is on the same street.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The CityPass was a nice way to see numerous tourist sites for 1 price.

Quaint

This is an older-styled hotel with studio-type rooms. The service was nice. Even though our rooms were not ready, we were upgraded to a suite. This isn’t a large hotel with a large lobby, restaurant, pool or anything. It’s like an apartment complex where the rooms have kitchens and suites had living rooms w/ desks. The place boasts its gym, but we didn’t use it. It somewhat near NYC’s attractions (short walk to Koreatown, ~20 min walk to Central Park) in a quiet neighborhood. Recommended for people who just need a nice place to sleep.

Great Hotel!

We had a junior suite which was quite large. It was wonderful having a full kitchen. The service was great...room service fast, doorman friendly and helped with cabs....front desk helpful and arranged airport transportation. You can walk many places and the subway is close. The only downfall is the charge for internet...$13.95 per day! Otherise great choice for NYC!

Great NYC Hotel

This was my first trip to NYC and this hotel was fantastic. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly to friends. It is a short walk to the subway (the 6 train which gets you just about everywhere) and the hotel was clean, quiet and the staff was friendly. The kitchen in the room leaves a little to be desired, so don’t plan on cooking too much. But other than that everything was great! The Murray Hill market is right on the corner of 34th and Lexington, right next to the hotel, and has a good supply of "room munchies" and other supplies. I’ll absolutely be back!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

For a bit of nightlife and evening dining go just down to the corner of 3rd and 34th streets. Try the Mercury Bar, good food, great prices, fantastic drinks. Wednesday evening is ladies night 2 for one cocktails. There are a bunch of bars on 2nd and 3rd streets. Don’t miss Carl’s Steaks on 3rd either, super late night steak sandwich!

Dumont Plaza is a winner

The Dumont is a great little hotel. There is never a line at the desk, it’s VERY close to Laguardia for being in the city and the rooms are like little apartments. If you’re looking for trendy, this isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for a really nice, clean, up todate large room, then stay here. Very nice rooms, with a fridge and totally modern and stylish. The location is ideal, you’re in the middle, so you can go up town or down town with ease (4,5,6 train just two block away). I have stayed all over the city and this is one of the best deals around, and it’s hassle free.

I’ll be back

This hotel was located right off of the Hudson River. The staff were the friendliest group of people I have every encountered at a hotel. In addition to the wonderful staff, our room exceeded all of our expectations. I was roomy and the beds were comfortable.

Can’t wait to go back

The staff was extraordinary, they were knowlegeable and always willing to assist with any request we made. Location was convenient to fine restaurants, Time Square and the theater district. Barking Dog restaurant is a must do as well as the Murray Hill restaurant if you want some of the usual American fare. We can’t say enough good things about this hotel. We paid the minor additional cost for the upgrade and were extremely pleased with our room. The junior suite was unbelievably spacious.

Save a few dollars on meals by taking advantage of the available kitchen and the grocery store about 2 blocks away.

Amazingly large for a NYC hotel room!

Went to this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and booked a junior suite. The room was very large, and quite comfortable. Plenty of room to spaciously work at the provided desk and enjoy its extra-comfortable chair. Lots of outlets for all those gadgets, too! Kitchen was very useful for heating up our leftovers and making coffee, etc. Lights were on rheostats, mirror was huge.... several very nice touches in the room. Only one suggestion: change TVs to flat screen when possible to complete room modernization.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel is very close to the subway; don’t feel confined to this or any neighborhood... just get out and explore! Also, if you book "pillow requests" online, confirm them when you check in!

Most Spacious Room Ever in NYC

We had a fantastic stay at the Affinia Dumont. When we arrived we decided to upgrade to a one bedroom suite. Wow! We had a kitchen area, living area, and a separate bedroom. It was great to be able to keep snacks, breakfast items, and drinks in the kitchen (which was fully stocked with pots and pans). It is in a good location, a short walk to Herald Square and lots of restaurants on Third Ave. It is also close to a subway if you prefer that to cabs like we do. We will definitely go back to the Affinia Dumont!

Traveler's tip on dining

Try Cafe Cielo on 8th Ave. if you love great Italian food. I think the closest cross street is 53rd St. I’ve been going there now for years and it is always delicious. They will make almost anything for you even if it isn’t on the menu! Very accomodating.

Comfort and Convenience

Everything about this hotel was to our liking--quiet, comfortable, spacious, convenient, and very helpful staff. Nice feature is the full kitchen.

Traveler's tip on dining

Avoid the Barking Dog Cafe for breakfast--worst coffee, omlette and oatmeal we ever ate!
