NOT IMPRESSED

This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, as it was advertised to be. This hotel recently reopened after a major renovation. The rooms are just average...not like the pics online. The pool is very small and nothing special. Service was average. Basically just an average hotel. Not worth what I paid.

Like Going Back to the Beautiful Days of Grandeur and Quality

I loved it from the minute I saw the front of the building. The pink was a statement in itself. The staff was so friendly, not often you get this kind of service. My husband left the first day to go to Vancouver on business which meant I spent the two nights we had booked in for by myself and couldn’t have been more comfortable. Thank you.

10 year anniversary

Let me start off saying that the hotel is very beautiful with an exceptional beach area with lounge chairs and umbrella service at no extra charge. Be aware! the whole hotel has not had a complete restoration as the description leads you to believe. Only the original building has been renovated, come to find out. The tower has not been done for a while and it shows. Not what I was expecting for a five star hotel. Made special arrangements prior to arrival with concierge to have an item waiting in our room. She assured me it would be there waiting. It was’nt !! Wall paper peeling with stains all over the walls. air condition didnt work very well, Shower diverter valve came off in hand. Engineer fixed while at the beach. came back to room and found ceiling dripping water with puddle below the airconditioner. checked shower and valve came off in hand again. went to front desk and complained. Spent an hour moving to new room with nothing but an, "im sorry." Very disappointed in the customer service aspect of this five star hotel. The Mia tai bar is very nice. Fourteen dollar drinks that were not that good. 2 mia tai and nachos = 46 bucks, ouch! didnt go back. The new pool is awesome. Yes, the second room was better with the exception of the air conditioner still didnt blow cold. it ran 24/7 to get 73 degrees. Dont know if I would stay there again.

Best Hawaiin Hotel

My 5th time in Hawaii and this hotel was the best among many hotels I have stayed. Have a nice beach right in front. My daughter fell in love with the beach right away so we didn’t get to use new pool with a slide at all. I would definitely go back to this hotel on my next trip to Hawaii.

The Royal Treatment!!!!

Very satisfied with every aspect of hotel from the look, cleanliness to the amazing workers. Never had a hotel stay as wonderful as this. We honestly thought that this hotel was the most unique, beautiful, and nostalgic hotel on the main strip of waikiki. Have plans to return

Traveler's tip on shopping

Go to feal market at Punch bowel stadium to buy all gifts to take home. THey are 40-50% less than on the main strip of waikiki

On the Beach

We were welcomed at the hotel with a lei and punch. Our room was ready and was very nice. The beach was connected to the back lawn and there was live music every night. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and efficient. It was a perfect place to stay in Honolulu.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Diamond Head is close by. Take the trolley over so you can climb the 99 steps to the top. We also enjoyed a twelve-hour day tour arranged by the hotel that took us to the most prominent places on Oahu.

Nice place to stay,

Nice place to stay, staff was friendly and helpful. Close to everything and centrally located. Private beach area is definately a plus. Room was not as clean as we like and the shower kind of smelled like dirty feet! We would stay again though.

comfortable, but old.

It depends on your taste, this hotel is old, we have a room in the tower with ocean view which had good views but they should remodel it soon, the decors of the room in the older section was better as they were recently remodeled but they did not have any view. I, myself personaly like the modern hotels, I guess this hotel considered a very nice one with the american point of view as they are not into modern decor.

Aloha and thank you for your review of The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We always appreciate feedback on our services and amenities but you are correct in stating that history and character desired in a resort is a personal preference. Our resort opened as the first luxury resort in the Pacific in 1927 and both the land and the building play a vital role in Waikiki’s storied past both before discovered by Captain Cook, during the beginnings of Hawaiian tourism, through the events of World War II, and through to today. Our iconic color and distinctive architecture will make it appeal to those looking for a deeper historic connection to our amazing destination. However, we also appreciate that many travelers, such as yourself, enjoy a more modern look and feel which is certainly offered by our sister property next door, the Sheraton Waikiki Resort which, after a stunning multi-year renovation will feature a beautiful and modern design with Hawaiian elements. Once again, thank you very much for your feedback and we hope you find the resort you are looking for upon returning to Waikiki.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

This was my first trip to Oahu and I am so happy we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The hotel staff were all so warm and helpful without being overbearing. The amenities were awesome. If we didn’t want to leave the property, we didn’t have to because everything was at our fingertips. I definitely recommend it and am looking forward to when I can return.

Best hotel we’ve stayed at!

The Royal Hawaiian has it all: best location - right on the beach and in the middle of the action, most courteous and helpful staff, clean and beautiful rooms. We would return in a heartbeat!

Traveler's tip on shopping

ABC Stores, right across from the Royal Hawaiian - best place to buy Hawaiian souvenirs!

Great

Fantastic. The renovated old wing was great even without ocean view. Only default was small swimming pool and the other larger pool had to share with the Sheraton next door. Gym was under construction, so when that is done it should be the best in Waikiki. It had the feel of an old hotel like the Raffles in Singapore....anybody who think Waikiki is for the Japanese tourists, once you step into this hotel, it’s a different world!

Nice vacation

My daughter and I had an overall wonderful time at The Royal Hawaiian. We stayed for one week and enjoyed our beautiful room and pleasant staff. The breakfasts were delicious but the Mai Tai bar food was not & was over priced. The renovation is beautiful, although the pool could be larger. We asked to purchase our robes that were provided in our room and were first told yes by a manager but then inquired to the concierege and was told no.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Lots of shopping near hotel.

Great stay in Hawaii

The hotel was clean and quite. The only bad thing that I could think about the Royal Hawaiian was the parking---$20 a DAY to park. The staff was always nice and recived us with a smile every day. Great beach right outside the hotel. Will stay there again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The pool in the royal is very small, but you can go over to the Hilton and used thier pool. Not a big deal for us, we wanted to be in the beach.

No longer a five star hotel

July 17 - July 22: Fifth stay at the hotel and although the remodeling was done well, the hotel did away with its famous morning buffets and Friday night fish buffet. I am not alone in my disappointment; I was told that almost all returning guests have the same complaints. The big ocean side restaurant with its huge doors open and panoramic ocean view has been negatively changed, you now have no morning inside access to the restaurant, the view is blocked with ugly tan canvas cabanas and the now morning café is squeezed into the front part of the pool patio with obstructed and limited views of the ocean. Morning coffee was served on the veranda in paper cups and trash was allowed to accumulate. I had to call multiple times to have missing items (phone book/extra blanket) brought to our room. I was there 6 days and 5 of those days, they left tables, chairs, windblown table coverings and performance stages in the entry garden area, (they were used only 2 of those days), again, not what you would expect from a five star hotel. It is a shame to see a part of our history slowly vanishing before our eyes. I am happy I had a chance to enjoy this hotel when glamour, old time service and attention to the little things made it a five star hotel, sadly that is gone.

Definitely not a 5-star hotel

When I first entered the loppy, I knew this didn’t deserve the 5-star hotel rating that it had received. Everything looked worn (i.e. carpets leading to the rooms, the building itself). Don’t get me wrong I love old buildings with charm, but this one only has old & worn written all over it. And for the price I pay, it wasn’t the "Old & Charming" to me. There were a couple of good thing to mention. 1)Breakfast & pool side food ordering at Beachside Cafe was great but $$ 2)Rooms were very clean 3)Check in & out was fast and friendly

A Royal Treat

We stayed for an entire week at the Royal, and not once did they miss an opportunity to impress me. I have stayed in many fine hotels over the years and this one has it all. Having said that, if you are looking for a fast-paced, stimulating, seen-and-be-seen type of hotel - then this resort would not be for you. It is quintessential Hawaii - a royal and elegant place to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii, even though it is located in the heart of Waikiki. Stepping out of the Royal connects you quickly to shops and restaurants, and into the heart of Honolulu - or if stepping out the ocean side of the hotel, you will find yourself on the sand at one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. Our 3rd floor ocean view room overlooked the MaiTai bar, which features live music every evening. If you need to turn in early this might pose an issue for you, but we found it to be another great reason to stay at the Royal Hawaiian.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try and book the "Hole in the Wall" Food Tour on your first day in Honolulu. It will set the stage for the rest of the trip, and will be an experience one will not soon forget.
