Great hotel near neighborhoods and shopping
We stayed here one night and were impressed by the size of the room. There was a lot of space, which made it feel like more of a one bedroom apartment sans kitchen than a basic hotel room. Although we were there for pleasure, this would be a great hotel for business travelers needing to stay a while. It was also near metro access, shopping at the enormous Corte Ingles department store, and other nice walks.

Nice place, good location, great price
I love deals and this hotel is definitely one. If you are looking for a fancy 4-star hotel, but would rather pay a little less and would stay in a slightly older room (operative word is "slightly") to do so, youve come to the right place. The Husa Moncloa is in the exact same building as the very new and fancy Husa Princesa hotel. Its just around the side. But the Husa Princesa has a hotel bar and restaurant, so if you like to stay close for good meals, its got all the conveniences of that hotel, too. Our room in Husa Moncloa was huge with a nice comfy bed, closet, safe, minibar, couches, his and hers sinks, a bidet, books about Madrid, etc. We easily got extra blankets from the closet and pillows by calling the front desk. The bathroom was very nice--marble floors and tiles. The front desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful, although perhaps a bit begrudgingly. The hotel includes a membership to a full service gym (like a serious gym with members outside the hotel--not a small hotel gym). There is a small pool in the gym, but not really for recreation. No other hot tub or pool that I know of which was the only bummer. As for food, there is a huge grocery store next door: El Cortez Ingles. The Princesa hotel terrace restaurant is very well-priced. 17 Euros for a prixe-fixe meal which includes a glass of beer or wine, soup/salad, entree, and dessert. Really good food too. Theres also an indoor eating place with a prixe-fixe of 23 Euros and tapas bar off of the Moncloa.

Raleigh goes to Madrid
Everything worked out well at this hotel except communications. The phone was analogue, so one couldnt do any of the "press this number" applications that weve become used to - calling cards, banking, credit card transactions, and the like. That was exacerbated by the expense of internet access which was 15 or 17 or 19 Euros a day in ones room. The number was untenable in any case. However, there was an Internet cafe nearby and phones on the street that sufficed.
