Style and value

Being from LA, I am used to being around beautiful people and beautifully designed environments but it is rare to find it outside of Southern California. Scottsdale is certainly once exception and the Mondrian certainly challenges the thought that there is ’no place like home’ - I felt actually right at home there. The front desk staff and concierge (and valet crew) are outstanding and took care of my every need with a smile. The layout of the property is quite cool with the beautiful swimming pools and the location within the town is hard to beat. The only downsides I encountered during my stay were about upkeep (the building is not maintained the way a Mondrian should be and shows lots of exterior wear and tear without attention. Room service trays can be left in the hallway for days - that’s just wrong. And getting a drink by the pool is next to impossible as staff is completely overwhelmed by their jobs and don’t have the best attitude about it. Fortunately there is PLENTY to look at while waiting. And that’s a good thing because you’ll be waiting for quite some time.

This hotel is too full of itself

I stayed at this hotel on a Friday night because a friend had a work function there and I didn’t want to drink and drive. A web search said this hotel was “the place to go” in Scottsdale so I had high expectations. My first impression was that someone spent a lot of TLC on designing and decorating this hotel and making it very modern. But unfortunately the service and upkeep on this hotel is atrocious. When I arrived in my room I was initially impressed with the décor but further inspection revealed stains on all the pillow cases. When I called the front desk for replacements the attendant simply ran up and dropped of replacements, he didn’t actually change the pillow cases. Plus half the ones he brought were also stained. They call this service? Later in the evening the handle of the sink in the bathroom came off in my hand. In addition, everything in the room had a price tag. Want some water? Pay extra. Want to listen to their CD? Pay extra. Want to park your car overnight in their parking lot? Pay extra, even though they don’t charge to park here during the day. This hotel provided little value for the amount of money paid. I left feeling ripped off rather satisfied with my stay at this pretentious hotel.

I will definately go back!!!
