Boutique is the way to go!

I had searched hundreds of hotels in San Fransisco, and my husband finally saw the picture of this hotel and said ’pick that, it looks funky’. Well, upon our arrival, I phoned the hotel when we got to the airport for directions using the Bart, and they were extremely helpful and correct. We could walk from the Powell Street exit with our luggage. We were happy just on entering the hotel. Small, quaint and friendly. I really liked how they had a ’bio’ of whomever was working at the desk so you could read about them. It encouraged friendly conversation. The room was small, but I knew that going in, because San Fransisco is packed. As we didn’t pay for a suite, it was just fine. Made it more cosy for my husband and I. The hotel bar was great. The buffet breakfast was a bargain (since I’m not a big eater). And the bar at night was a great vibe. Groovy, hip, and the bartenders fun and friendly. We ate breakfast across the street the last morning and were sadly disappointed. The hotel was much better. Highly recommend all aspects of the hotel. The only thing that wasn’t up to par was the ’free’ wireless internet. It was slow, but we could use it. The option for faster was the usual price. But they did let us print out our boarding passes for free in the downstairs business room. Definitely will return.

Pretty good, for the price

I stay in San Francisco every December for a meeting. I used to stay at the Westin St. Francis, but I couldn’t justify a $200 room that wasn’t really that great. The Hotel Adagio was just fine. It represents the best tradeoff between a nice hotel that I felt to be appropriately priced -- it’s a good value. One of the elevators was broken most of the time, but the rooms were very clean, good sized and nicely decorated. The neighborhood is fine, and just a few blocks to Union Square. This is now my second stay at this hotel, and I’ll probably stay again.

Not nearly as nice as presented on website

I picked this hotel based on description on website, location, and free internet use. While the location is near Union Square, the neighborhood around the hotel is worrisome, and it was impossible to leave hotel without being approached by panhandlers. Only one elevator in operation during 4 day stay, and was shared with hotel staff with their carts, etc. Heater in room was very noisy and could not be regulated. Wi Fi only worked intermittently, and 3 times I had to call 800 number to get help (put on hold for 15 minutes then another 30 minutes of trying different options on computer). At checkout I was charged for 800 call to help line (charge removed when I protested).
