The "SO NOT A FIVE STAR" STANHOPE!!

This was sold as a FIVE STAR, romantic getaway "boutique style" hotel!! it is not! There is NOTHING 5 star about this establishment except the total exorbitant prices they charge for everything! The breakfast at pprox $35 a head was terrible, stone cold sub standard food, not even ONE complimentary pot of coffee was offered when we asked for extra coffee. Be prepared to pay up $17 a day for the innterent, no wifi for free here!! There was someone else’s hair in the bathtub and on the shower wall, when I got to the FIRST room, oh which incidentally I also asked to be moved from as they FORGET to mention their is a construction site, IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT to the front of the hotel as it is adding on more rooms!! They started at 7am and banged and yelled and sawed and hammered!! This is a BUSINESS hotel , slap bang in "concrete jungle" business area, geared up for Diplomats and Embassy staff and business men/women. I was utterly disapointed and feel very cheated, especially as I was meeting my husband who had 5 days leave from his work in Africa and I had flown all the way from SC so we could have some R&R together! VERY DISAPPOINTING...if its purely a busines trip then fine, BUT its not a five star, I have stayed in hotels around the World, to include the Ritz-Carlton, Burgh-Al-Arab, and Intercontinental in Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar! I would class this as a mediocre 3 star, with pleasant decoration that even then has started to look shabby!

I would check to see what the Dollar is to the Euro as it can be totally exorbitant to eat out etc. We bought bagettues and cheeses and fruit and some wine from the local deli and took picnics, we had a total of 3 dinners out and spent approx $150 on each! This was not extravagant dining, very simple restaurants with a bottle of wine! Also a taxi from the airport to main town centre (about 7-8 miles) will be around $70! The train and metro was very good although obtaining a ticket was not simple!

A Great place to stay

I loved this hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and genuinely wanted to help you in any way they could. The location was good. The interior of the hotel was very nice. I’d return here in a second if I have the chance. My only complaint is the breakfast was too expensive (go elsewhere).

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Go to Bruges for a day trip. It’s a great historic city about an hour away by train. Also, if you’re a beer drinker, check out Beer Circus in Brussels. Big selection of beer and great food also.

Elegant hotel, but....

Very nice hotel, but in a part of the city that has very little to offer in the way of dining options and the hotel’s restaurant is exceedingly expensive.
