Old fashioned Acapulco with solid service
Though not a perfect hotel (what hotel is?) the Elcano is still a good recommendation in Acapulco. Even the smallest rooms have ocean views, the food is good and sometimes quite good, room-service efficient, service attentive even at the busiest times. The hotel itself has a fun, retro feel, especially in the lobby. The prices, however, are a little steep.

Not impressed
The hotel is clean, the rooms are large, the staff is friendly. But: The sand on the beach consists of large grains, so it hurts to walk on barefoot. This is not your typical "sugar sand" beach. During our stay, the hotel leased its outdoor restaurant for a corporate party. Most hotels have a "quiet time" policy after 11pm, but this was not the case. We were on the 6th floor, and the music was so loud, we could hear EVERY SINGLE WORD from a DJ. At 12:30 am I was told that the party would end by 1am and at 1:30 am with the music still blaring I was told t that it should end by 2am. Needless to say that it continued well into the morning hours, and we got no rest.

Charm of an era past
I loved the hotel...comfortable, not pretentious, local charm that reflected another era. My only warning would be that since they dont have double paned windows, the noise at night from the partying on the beach can bring you to a point of sleep deprivation. If you want to join the parties or can sleep through anything, then it should not be a problem. The view from our balcony was spectacular. I would return.
