Poor Customer Service

I stayed at the Aston Kauai Beach at Makaiwa on Jan 15th-19th 2010 and I had a very poor experience. First, we waited more than an hour for dinner one night and had to remind the waitress that we were still there; the waitress went to check on the order and found out our order had not been submitted yet. 2nd, at breakfast one day my father was waiting to get the bill when the waitress never came back with it. He got up to find someone he could pay for breakfast and then suddenly restaurant staff jump up and say something like “Excuse me sir; have you paid yet?” or something similar implying he planned to leave without paying. 3rd, the internet kiosks didn’t work for half our stay. And finally, on the last night my girlfriend couldn’t sleep most of the night because upon using the restroom before bed a large cockroach ran across her foot in the bathroom and she couldn’t sleep for most of the night after that. My girlfriend mentioned most of these issues to one of the hotel managers who didn’t seem to care. On our last day the hotel staff almost redeemed themselves. We had a late flight and they offered to provide us a courtesy room to freshen up before our flight. We used the courtesy room but were appalled at the smell upon entering the room which made the experience horrible. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE STAY AT THIS HOTEL OR THE CHAIN OF HOTELS OWNED BY THIS COMPANY.

Excellent quality for the price

Our stay started off with a little difficulty in that we couldn’t find the hotel in the dark. The road is not well lit and the hotel is poorly marked from the main highway. We had turned up the wrong road and visited another Aston (older and lesser in quality) in search of our hotel. With additional directions we quickly got to our hotel just a few blocks away. The check-in was very smooth and we were quickly in our room. The hotel is apparently recently acquired by Aston and to date is pretty dingy in places. It needs a good bit of freshening but overall the "bones" of the hotel are fine. Our room was a nice style and spotlessly clean but again, was dingy and in need of lighter/brighter paint. We were so tired on arrival that with our sliding door open we were out cold in 15 minutes and slept fantastically. Breakfast the next morning on the terrace of the restaurant was delightful and we followed up with a walk around the grounds. We noticed that uhpholstered furniture needs redoing and smells of cigarette smoke, outside doors are in serious need of refinishing but again, overall, a very nice facility. Some sprucing up will make a world of difference. We only stayed one night but would stay there again without hesitation.
