Nice Hotel in Genoa
The Bristol Palace Hotel was a good location from which to explore Genoa. Its an easy walk to the Metro, the port and other activities plus one of the train stations. Our room was very large with a high ceiling. It was comfortably furnished with a modern bath. A full breakfast buffet was included and it was large and delicious. There is a small bar. The staff was very helpful.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
It is easy to get to many of the small coastal towns by train from Genoa. We went to Nervi - a 30 minute train ride. It was quaint and allowed us to walk along the Mediterranean. Eat at Zeffirino - pricey but excellent food and service! The Pope enjoys the chefs homemade pesto.

Old fashioned - in good sense of the word
It is 100 year old hotel and it maintained the old charm. Room was impecably clean, pure linen sheets, starched like in the old time - bathroom was with powerful contemporary shower, although I found the cabin somewhat weird and akward. I am giving the hotel only 4 stars because they promised internet in the room and then I found ot that their wifi doesnt reach 6th floor - I had a lot to do on the net, coming after a long cruise, so I had to do it downstair in the lobby, whichw was very inconvenient. so if you have a laptop and want to have access to the net, ask for a room on a lower floor!
Traveler's tip on dining
1. Behind the hotel is a 100 year traditional old bakery that offers amazing sweets and also salads and small meals. Their pizza was one of the best I ever had. I forgot the name but ask at the hotel reception. 2.Nearby is also the opera house - i was sorry I didnt know about it earlier, beccaue they didnt have any ticket in the last minute.
