"Putting on the Ritz"

Our stay at the Ritz was everything we hoped! The hotel was beautiful and the staff very accomodating. It was very reminscent of old Fred Astire and Ginger Rodgers movies with "Good Morning Madame" and "Good Evening Sir." The price of the hotel was a little a more, but worth every penny. We can’t wait to see the other Ritz Carlton Hotels around the world.

Take the tour of Chitzen-Itzi(?). We recommend ordering a box lunch from the Ritz the night before to take on excursion.

Heaven On Earth

Our two-night stay was absolutely heavenly! From the moment we exited the limo, we were treated to the kind of service that is normally reserved for royalty. The view from the balcony was breath-taking and the food was as tasty as any I’ve ever had. Thanks to the entire staff.

If you don’t mind paying $17 for a drink & being nickel & dimed

The Ritz Carlton in Cancun is lovely, no doubt BUT our stay there was frustrating. If you stay at the Ritz you pay extra for everything. The cab drivers charge you significantly more. The tour guides charge you more. A drink from the beach bar literally costs $17. AND to top it off they charge you $25/day for internet access and $4/day if you want to use the coffeemaker in your room. I find this kind of nickel & diming at an upscale hotel totally distasteful and irritating.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Walk to the hotel next door to catch a cab on the street. You’ll pay significantly less. There is a fantastic restaurant literally across the street and to the left where you can get amazing seafood in a gorgeous setting. Visit the little snack shop across the street for your drink needs and make your own! Oh, and there is free coffee in the restaurant with take-out cups...they just don’t tell you that.

Great service and location.

We hadn’t been to Cancun for 26 years and it has changed for the better. The area around the Ritz has great restaurants and good service everywhere we went. The Ritz Carlton was excellent, both the facilities and service. One of the few uncrowded beaches. We took advantage of the club level. We used it for breakfast, lunch and cocktails every day, plus the concierge service was outstanding. Also, do dinner on the beach for a memorable night and personalized attention.

Traveler's tip on dining

Great Italian spot in the luxury shopping mall only a 10 minute walk away. All pasta were home made.

Incredible

Incredible service, accommodations, comfort, quality, etc. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and did everything possible (and beyond) to make our stay perfect. Cheers to the wonderful staff and wonderful hotel, hope to see you all soon.

Traveler's tip on dining

Right across the street from the Ritz is in our opinion the best steak & seafood restaurant in Cancun - Harry’s. We went there for 3x - the steak selection is fantastic, the preparation (IMHO) is better than a Ruth’s or Morton’s, and the seafood is mouth watering. I miss it already.

The name says it all!

We had a wonderful weekend at the Ritz. The staff is great and the service is exceptional. The hotel is very classy and above anything else the Ritz really goes out of it’s way to make you feel very special. The detail in everything they do is wonderful. Nice beach and very romantic on the beach dining is great.

Traveler's tip on dining

La Isla is nearby with on the water dining. Try Thai or Indian food. Very romantic restaurants.

Wonderful Experience

Our recent stay at the Ritz was tremendous. The service and over-all staff were both A+. We have stayed at many other properties, but this by far exceeded them all. Looking forward to going back soon.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

There are many other great choices of restaurants that are all located on the hotel strip. Prices vary to accomodate any budget

Nice hotel, good location

We liked the hotel. Our only negative comment is the high prices for the food. Even for a Ritz, $30/person for breakfast is pretty high. It was good, but pricey.

Traveler's tip on shopping

La Isla was a great outdoor mall nearby.

Our Best Vacation Ever!

My wife and I have been to Cancun 3x previously, & Ritz is by far best. Stayed Club Level - excellent value! Wifi is free if you stay on Club, $25/day if not. I emailed my ofc from my chair @ pool. Free breakfast buffet (Club Level - available to others @ $) was extensive and delicious. Wife rarely eats breakfast but got up every day with me. Free lunch on Club Level floor was delicious 4-course light meal (appetizer, soup, entree, dessert - all small but adequate portions). Housekeeping & concierge services were impeccable, & sometimes the pool service & elsewhere can get to be a little 2 much - but that’s better than the alternative! I read complaints about the smaller beach, & was there pre-Wilma. Though not quite what it used to be, still beautiful white beach, crystal clear water, perfect sun, no rain. Ritz works hard mantaining beach. If considering trip, go now. Occupancy so low (told by an employee they were at 50% but didn’t believe it) my wife & I joked that one of the 2 pools (one large meandering pool & smaller adult pool) was "our" pool because we had it to ourselves for hours at a time. Exchange rate very favorable. 1 complaint: 2x we went to eat lunch on Club Level & it was 5 mins before anyone knew we were there. Of course, once waitress reappeared, service & food were excellent. In grand scheme of things, a minor annoyance. We stay in very nice hotels in U.S., but Ritz is finest hotel I have ever stayed in. My wife & I were in mourning when we left.

Traveler's tip on dining

Stay on the Club Level. Great value in part because of free food: breakfast buffett, light lunch, appetizers and booze if you want it from 5-7 (we don’t drink so this didn’t matter to us!), and then chocolate and cordials from 8-10 pm. Two malls, Plaza Kukulcan (10 mins) and La Isla (20 mins) are within walking distance. Try Casa Maguey at Plaza Kukulcan (very upscale mall) for delicious authentic Mexican food.

Will return

This was my first stay at the Ritz-Carlton chain of hotels, and I was impressed. The service was impeccable, eating breakfast ocean front was spectacular. The pool was nice, although I would have liked more shade since fair skin nordic types like me can’t stay in the Mexican sun that long. The occupancy rate was 20% so I’m sure the pampering had a lot to do with that, but I believe the service would have been just as good otherwise.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take the bus for sure. Taxis are too expensive. Buy water at the Oxxo to save money. The restaurants in the local area are all good - don’t ride all over the peninsula looking for a place. You can walk to good restaurants outside of the Ritz-Carlton.

Not Impressed

Hotel and straff were good but, the hotel was located way off the main street in the back of an apartment complex. I felt like i was in prison every time I walked in to the driveway the gaurd would ask to see my room key you would think after a day or two that they would remember you. For a 5 star hotel they had old beat up TVs more like a 3 star hotel would not recommend

Total Paradise! Go now - you’ll have the place to yourself!

I really cannot say enough about our incredible visit to The Ritz Cancun. We stayed from May 10 - May 14th, despite the Swine Flu warnings & never once during our stay did we feel there was any threat of the flu. In fact, I’ve never seen a place so immaculate. Our room was cleaned twice daily and because there were so few people in the hotel, most of the time the Ritz employees cleaned & cleaned & cleaned. All our meals were wonderful - we simply had a fabulous, relaxing experience and cannot wait to go back. I urge you to book your trip now. The hotels are hurting - they are at like 10% capacity so you have the hotel(s) to yourself! This was my first stay at the Ritz and I’m not sure that I can ever stay anywhere else again :). It was that awesome. We left the hotel twice, once for snorkeling, which the concierge setup for us - it was only about $50 per person. Again, it was an empty boat - but US! We also went to dinner one night at La Habichuela & it was lots of fun. The prices for drinks and food were a little high - though a beer was maybe 5-6 USD & a margarita about 8, which isn’t all that bad. We elected to not do an all-inclusive because we really do like good food and didn’t want to be stuck with what we might get at an AI. We also took the cooking class & had a marvelous time. I highly recommend it!

Best Hotel in Cancun

A very pleasant stay. Stayed four nights and it was pleasing that the staff remembered us from our first day of arrival. It’s the little things that count. The food ordered via room service was excellent. The best breakfast buffet! Beds were extremely comfortable, room size was adequate, and a massive selection of in-room entertainment(movies, games)available. First Rate Hotel with First Rate Staff!

Still Excellent

I have stayed at the Ritz many times. And it is still an excellent hotel. The beach has been washed away in front of the hotel. While this may be very disappointing to guests, The Ritz developed the vacant lot next door to them, and moved the Palapa Huts (free on a first come/first served basis) and the Casistas (which must be reserved for a fee). The "Beach Club" as it is called, has waiters, a small covered area to have lunch and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. Year after year, their service has never disappointed me.

This will be a tradition

I can’t wait to go back again and again. Club level worth every penny....No need to even leave hotel grounds. Perfect for families. Kids camp the best...take a cooking class..and don’t miss the spa. Reminds me of the Breakers in Palm Beach. Staff was remarkable.

Excellent stay, but the beach is disappearing

Excellent hotel, excellent service, very gracious. We had one bad experience with luncheon food, but the hotel quickly and graciously fixed the problem and absorbed the meal charge. Their beach is eroding badly. If the beach is your focal point you may want to consider other locations.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Eating anywhere else is cheaper. Hotel services are quite expensive. Options are within walking distance.

Luxurious stay

what a wonderful hotel. a friend and i booked a last minute trip for a long weekend and had a fabulous experience. we had stayed at another hotel down the beach in january, but b/c of nearby construction wanted to try something in a different location. It far exceeded our expectations. every aspect of service was great, there was a ton of room near the pool, and the beach was far bigger than any other hotel. i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would recommend the restaurants as well.
