Don’t Look Any Further!

We stayed at the Kahala for our honeymoon and couldn’t have been more pleased... my wife says she’s been spoiled for life! : ) The breakfast buffet was terrific, just steps from the ocean, perfect for watching the sun rise. The location of the hotel was excellent for us... in an upscale residential area away from the bustle of Waikiki, but just ten or fifteen minutes drive from Honolulu. Service was impeccable... the bellman who took us to our room also showed us around... the front desk staff was always friendly and happy to help with directions to attractions... the animal trainer told us all about the turtles and dolphins in the hotel’s lagoon. Grounds were beautiful... room was nicely decorated and spacious. The Kahala is the only place we’ll stay on Oahu.

mixed: lovely hotel / nickel-and-dimed

This was my second stay at the Kahala, which is a lovely hotel with very friendly and attentive staff. I got to the hotel and found that my partial ocean view room was also a partial "parking lot" view. Upgraded at the hotel and got moved to the Ko Ko head wing for better view. Kahala wants extra money for internet access. They want extra money to sit in a cabana on the beach, even when all the "free" chairs are taken. I hate being nickel-and-dimed, especially when I have paid in advance for a high end hotel stay. If my [very high] daily rate does not get me a shaded chair on the beach and the chance to check email, then I think Kahala’s priorities are confused. Hotel dining: very good, except the coffee at breakfast. Amazing meal at Tokyo Tokyo. For a simpler meal, we sometimes took the hotel shuttle to Kahala Mall where there is a whole foods with great salad bar. The shuttle ride is only 5 min outbound, but much longer inbound since you have the rest of the loop to cover, so take a taxi back. We checked out some bikes from the hotel and cycled to diamond head then made the climb to the top. That made for a nice morning of exercise. maintenance could be better. The shower flooded the bathroom floor each day. The A/C started leaking water and had to be repaired. The on demand movie service crashed mid-movie and was down for the count. The TV remote was flaky.
