Great location and service
Grand Cayman Beach Suites was formerly the Hyatt Beach Club. Its not a Hyatt but it makes up for it by being quite possibly the closest resort to the water. The beach is great, Red Sail Watersports is adjacent and the hotel personnel are among the friendliest and most responsive Ive ever experienced. The hospitality industry should use GC Beach Suites as a model. The rooms are updated but a bit worn, not worthy of a fifth star on this review. There are other reviews about road noise; this may occur with the full balcony suites, but the French balcony suites, which offer a minimal at best ocean view, are also much quieter. On site, the Seven Mile Beach Bar is a great lunch option; Hemingways, the restaurant is OK, and Bamboo, the sushi bar and club, is definitely worth a visit. If there are any real complaints about the property, it is that parking can be difficult, it is very limited, and that the beach lounges, with their built-in shades, could be a different color than dark blue (absorbs the tropical sun). This is definitely a go-back hotel/resort.
The exchange rate is .8 CI to 1 US when using credit cards... it was better is using an ATM and paying with Cayman dollars. I just seems better to use CI than US money on the island. When we got back our bank statement showed about a .85 exhange rate.

Not sure why some people gave negative reviews
I just got back from a one week stay Oct. 6th-13th. I had a great time, people were so helpful and friendly, the rooms are nice and roomy, beach was amazing and never crowded as well. Everyone I met while on vacation had nothing but positive things to say so I kinda question those who have had negative things to say( I read the reviews prior to booking as well as the people who stayed there while I was there), none of us can understand what people were thinking because our experience was outstanding. As for the island itself, its beautiful, everyone knows it is pricey so dont be shocked by what you are paying as compared to home. It is absolutely safe to walk around unlike some caribbean islands I have been to.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Cabs around about $10 cayman or $13 US to Georgetown.Remember to get the card of the cab driver, we had our driver the whole week and he was great and took us everywhere and even waited while we went grocery shopping. Buy duty free liquor at MIA airport because it is cheap and Fosters is a 5 minute walk and you can save alot. Lastly, cab from airport is cheaper than the transportation you book with agent or online(5 minutes away from airport).
