Nice Stay at Hapuna

We enjoyed our stay at the Hapuna Prince right before Christmas. Stop by Costco or Walmart to stock up on bottled drinks and snacks for the room. There is a small refrigerator in each room. Check-in was quick. We were assigned a partial ocean view room with 2 queen beds. The room was OK. It could use a bit of updating. The bathroom is spacious and the lanai was also decently sized. It was a bit of a walk to the pool and beach. The beach is one of the best in the world. The sand is so fine. The waves are big enough for the kids to play in. Sometimes it got busy and there wasn’t enough chairs/umbrellas for all the guests. But, we always got an early start and never had a problem getting a spot. For lunch, I would run up to the Cafe Hapuna in the lobby and grab some pre-made deli sandwiches. Not the best sandwiches, but OK. They also serve salads, soups, beverages, etc. Prices are a little high, but what can you expect for a resort. I would run to the room to get our cold drinks and chips and it was perfect for our on-the-beach lunch! Overall, the Hapuna Prince provided us nice accommodations and a fun vacation. I think the resort was more crowded than usual because of the holidays. We’ve gone in the summer time and it wasn’t nearly as crowded. They do charge $15 for self parking. Valet parking is also offered.

Beautiful hotel on a gorgeous beach for a great price!

We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed staying at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean with nice linens. Bathrooms were nice with separate tub and shower. The pool and hot tub area were very clean. The beach was amazing. My husband and I looked at several other hotel properties while on the Big Island (i.e. Marriott, Hilton, Fairmont & Four Seasons) The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel had the nicest beach. Also, the Mauna Kea is a lovely property, but the pool area and beach are not half as nice as the Hapuna’s. The food was very expensive (which we anticipated) so we didn’t eat on site besdes 1 breakfast (which was $50). The Cafe Hapuna (off the main lobby) offered affordable breakfast and lunch items. Overall, we would definitely recommend the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and the Big Island overall. We would definitely return to the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel specifically. Best vacation we’ve ever taken and we’ve been to some fabulous locations.

2nd Time staying here.

This is our 2nd time staying here 1/2010, the 1st was 3/2009. We like the resort and it’s grounds very much. The rooms are large and the queen size beds are very comfortable. We were just a little disappointed this time in the view from our lanai because the flowers were high and you couldn’t see the view unless you were standing. On our 1st trip, parking was free, not on our 2nd trip , which I don’t like. The island is so barren and you don’t have a choice but to have a car so I don’t agree with a parking fee. Their were also some cutbacks we saw from our 1st stay, like no bottled water in the room and you had to ask for hair conditioner. On our 2nd trip we experienced what maintenance was like and they were great. Our room door lock apparently broke and when we arrived back to our room after a long day out the door was unlocked. Mgt. came when my daughter got them so we didn’t have to go into an unlocked room by ourselves. The area is great, safe and luckily nothing was taken and the locked was fixed almost immediately. On the property is a cove which is great for snorkeling, though 1/2010 had large waves so we didn’t have the chance to snorkel. We plan on visiting the Big Island again next year and I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again.
