Not Impressed
The beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel room was small, no hot water and the halls were noisy.

Great Place for the money!
The hotel is in a GREAT location and is nice for the money. Since its older, you can hear through the walls a bit, but not too bad. I didnt care for the A/C in the room, it was constantly going on and off and was loud. The staff was VERY nice and helpful! The bed left a little to be desired, but I have a bad back so Im kind of picky. I stayed for 5 days. Cannot beat the location for the money and compared to the look of some of the other places around, it was very nice. Only problem is the price of food on South Beach - EXPENSIVE!!! Watch out for the tipping - they automatically add on a 15-20% gratuity. So dont tip twice unless you mean to.

Hotel of the Doors Slamming
Well, Ihad problems with every aspect of my stay here. Check in was long and tiedious. After a long day of travel, the last thing you want to do is sit in a busy hotel lobby with a bunch of other people waiting for their room for over an hour. Once I got to the room I was unimpressed. I did like the big bathroom but the rest of the room was unimpressive. I will say that the worst (by far) thing about this hotel were the slamming doors. I stayed in a suite, where the staff assured me was their quietest rooms, and heard doors slamming all night and all day. The doors are big and metal and are incredibly loud. All the surfaces in this place were concrete and tile and you can imagine the noise.....I have stayed at 100s of hotels, I do a lot of traveling, and can tell you that this was the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at. If you want to sleep, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Check out was tideous and long. Good things about the hotel, close to the action, close to the beach, but there are so many other hotels to choose from just on that block. Dont waste your time with the essex. Staff were idiots and the maids would come about every other day at varrying times to clean the room. And that is only when I would go down to the lobby and complain to the manager that my room hadnt been cleaned in 2 days and I was out of towels. Room service menu sucked too, I ordered a hamburger (hard to mess up) and it came to the room raw in the middle.....
