Good for a night
I picked the Stratosphere because I thought the rates were reasonable, and I was not intending to do anything other than spend the night in Vegas and fly out early the next morning. The room was comfortable, the view from the 11th floor was due south and since the Strat is at the extreme northern end of the strip, the view downtown was good. Check-in went smoothly, as did check-out early the next morning. I had dinner in the hotel at Fellinis. The wine and entree were good. The restaurant was a little chilly, wished I had brought a sweater along. I walked thru the casino, stopped and watched some of the poker tournament. Everyone seemed polite and helpful. There are some nice shops on the second floor, perfect for an after dinner stroll. Due to the lateness of my arrival and early departure time, I did not make use of any of the amenities in the hotel and casino. My only negative comment, if you can call it that, is the location. As I mentioned above, the Stratosphere is on the far north end of the strip, and it takes awhile to get to depending on your direction, and it also is the last stop on the shuttle to and from the airport. I had no problem making my flight. I mention this just as an observation. Thought the shuttle service was good, relatively inexpensive, mostly ontime.
Traveler's tip
Be sure to arrange for your return shuttle ride after you get in and settled.

VERY Satisfactory
Good price, great staff, fun hotel. I recommend Tower Pizzeria - mmm mmm good - on the retail level. I DO NOT recommend the top-optional pool. A little trashy and if you have guys in your group, they have to pay a $10 cover. The 8th floor pool is much better.
