Christmas in Santa Fe
We wanted to spend Christmas in a snowy environment not far from home and Santa Fe was the ticket. We also wanted to stay near the Plaza. The St. Francis Hotel sounded like a great location. It is. We were able to walk everywhere only taking the car out of the parking lot to drive to Taos on Christmas day. The hotel itself is charming, service good, and rooms pleasant and clean. The negatives were the difficulty keeping a comfortable temperature in the room. It was either too hot or too cold. Perhaps this is due to it being an old hotel. The other problem was the lack of a full length mirror in the room. The only mirror was a small, poorly lit one over the sink in the bathroom. The real problem at the St. Francis is with their dining room. There is a lack of management, so everything was chaos. It took forever to be seated, and there were never enough waitstaff. Those that were there were working at maximum speed, but were unable to keep up with the task. We ordeded wine with our dinner and never got it; we finally gave up on asking for it, but, then had to ask to have it removed from our bill. The chef is, apparently, very noted in Santa Fe and the food was very, very good. The problem is just in the running of the operation. Too bad. We managed to have some terrific meals while in Santa Fe, but not at the St. Francis. Next time we visit, I think we will try staying at La Fonda.

This is a wonderful hotel and we loved our stay.
What a great place! The interiors had a wonderful, peaceful and totally "Santa Fe" feel. Classic and understated. We loved it. Our breakfast was delicious and I loved that they used mostly local and organic items. The room was smallish but comfortable and, again, an understated but lovely decor.
