Very nice, quiet, clean, friendly staff

Great Hotel. Very clean and quiet rooms. Friendly and resourceful staff. We reserved a table in a nearby restaurant through the hotel main desk and were pleasantly surprised to hear in the restaurant that the hotel paid for the appetizer. The only thing I regret is the cost of parking the car overnight in the basement was a bit steep ($31 for one night), especially because it took me by surprise. Would be a good idea that Expedia mentions this.

Nice Gem

Hotel was a wonderful surprise in Portland. 4* comfort at an affordable price. The bed was terrific. The room was small but comfortable. The Restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent. The only negative was that the hotel was not as close to Pioneer Square as I would have liked. This should be minimized by recent extension of the Max lines that travel by the hotel.

Will stay there again

Staff were uniformly pleasant and went out of their way to be helpful. We took a delightful 10 mile bike tour along the River on the complimentary bicycles. Our corner king on a high floor was delightful.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take the light rail (Red Line) directly from the airport terminal to Pioneer Square, a 5 minute walk from the Hotel.

Nice hotel, friendly staff...but...

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel except for one little problem. As soon as we exited the elevator for our floor and turned the corner to head to our room, the smell of stale cigarette smoke hit us like a brick wall. It persisted into the room. In fact, each time we entered the room, it was what greeted us when we opened the door. If I remember correctly, Portlandians have a more liberal approach to the whole smoking thing...other than that, it was a great stay. We got a king suite which was set up perfectly for us. The girls slept on the queen sleeper and we slept in the room. Both rooms were divided by huge sliding doors. Two televisions so there was no arguing over who was going to watch what. The amenities were very nice, and the hotel staff were authentically friendly. We loved the happy hour. We would probably stay there again, except I would probably come armed with a bottle of Meyer’s room deodorant.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

A walk along the waterfront in the park is a beautiful way to relax for the day!

Good Location, and so Quiet

We couldn’t get into our usual place, and booked the room because they had two room suites available. We had such a nice stay we may make it our new Portland hotel. The rooms are large, they had a roll away waiting for us, both the kids commented on the comfort of the mattresses on the pull out couch and the roll away. Our room was very quiet, even with a batchelorette party going on next store. The sangria at the reception was refreshing. The valets pull the car out of the very tight garage. They welcome pets. The hotel is within easy walking distance of all the downtown. I even liked the art on the walls. Also-the spa in the building was running a nice special on massages for hotel guests.

Our room was not well taken care of, not soap, shampoo...

We needed to request an extra towel (only one bath towel for the 2 of us, the ice maker on our floor did not work, I needed to go to another floor to get ice. Staff was friendly and helpful, but better management of the room would have made our stay more enjoyable.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

We both LOVED Portland, what a great city!! The ease of getting around the city, the parks, the Farmers’ Markets, the many excellent restaurants. We are already planning our next visit!!

Would go back there

Hotel is easy to get to, you can walk everywhere in downtown. Large rooms, spacious bathroom. The hotel felt very comfortable, not too stuffy. The Red Star resturant has happy hour from 4-8pm every night. Great place to get a bite and a drink before heading out for dinner.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t do breakfast there, there are lots of cafes around which do great food

Goofed Reservations

I made a reservation for two twin beds because there were two of us twenty-something males. They did not have any two twin bed rooms remaining when we checked in. They did offer us a bottle of wine, but it was not very good.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you are a young, single male make your way over to The Dixie Tavern

Fantastic Hotel

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in anywhere. It is extremely well managed, comfortable, and all the staff are the most genuinely friendly people you could ask for. The hotel seemed relaxed in a most positive way. Not a bit stuffy. Complimentary bikes were available to use. Every afternoon there was a complimentary wine tasting (and beer), the concierge was incredibly helpful, and the location in downtown Portland could not be beat. Plus the dog friendly atmosphere just added to the charm.

Traveler's tip

I couldn’t pick a particular category for a tip because so much applies- recreational activities, shopping, dining (the attached Red Star Tavern and Restaurant has great food, wine, and beer on tap. The river is only a few blocks away and the progressive Portland public transportation is right around the corner. Oh, did I mention Powells, a five minute walk?

Over-Rated

This is a cute hotel with a lot of design forward attributes. The big deal here is they let dogs stay and there are a lot of cute dogs around. No bother to people who don’t like dogs. But The rooms, although larger than average, were hampered by street noise, mostly in the early morning. Also, the bath, although large, was nothing special. I would say there are better options to be found.

Would totally go back

We visited Portland because it was my graduation that weekend. I wanted to stay at one of the boutique hotels in town. I highly recommend this hotel - they were accommodating of our needs (and I’m a picky traveler). Enjoyed the evening cocktails (especially when it’s on the house) and service - excellent. I would definitely consider staying here again.

Traveler's tip on dining

Pazzo Ristorante down the street (walking distance) is super yummy. Jake’s bar and grill a little bit of a walk that was good too!

Awesome Staff

We LOVED this hotel. They gave us a car seat to use so we wouldn’t have to pay to bring ours on the plane. They gave the kids bathrobes to use and a goldfish for our room ("Frida"). The bellhops, door men, and girls at the front desk were so incredibly sincere and friendly, always offering suggestions and chatting with the kids. We really felt at home here - we’ll definitely go back. Oh, and the rooms are really homey, nicely decorated and clean - and you can’t miss the happy hour. Fun, fun...

Sure to go back

We can’t say enough about this hotel. It was spotless and the staff was so helpful with recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, etc. It made our week’s stay special. The hotel is dog friendly. Although we are not dog people, this was not a problem. We made dinner reservations through the concierge and they notified the restaurant on a couple of occasions that they would pay for our appetizers. When does that happen?

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Be sure to see the Oregon coast.

Great hotel, friendly staff and perfect location right in the heart of everything. I will definitely make this my regular stay in Portland.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you’re traveling to Portland, your trip is not complete without eating at Jakes Famous Crawfish (Not to be confused with Jakes Grill). They have the best seafood ever!!!

Excellent service and facility

Even with our late night arrival, the staff did everything they could to make us feel at home. They were full of helpful advice: from late night dinner recommendations to providing us with walking maps for the next day. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable.

Perfect location, an fun indulgences!

Despite being checked in very slowly by a trainee and our toilet backing up within 20 minutes of our arrival, we had a fabulous time at Hotel Monaco. The room was small yet comfortable, and the bathroom was large and spacious, great for two people. The Aveda products in the bathroom, complimentary beer/wine and local treats [chocolates were fabulous!] every evening, popsicles in the afternoon...we felt very well taken care of! The central location to our interests was just perfect as well.

Traveler's tip on dining

We ate breakfast at Mother’s Bistro just a couple of blocks away at 3rd/Strick twice, it was so yummy...and there was a dozen or so line before the place even opened! Also, the crepes from the non-descript Crepes To Go foodstand at 11th/Alder are phenomenal.

A perfect getaway for two...

My boyfriend and I celebrated our first year anniversary at this hotel and it was honestly one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed at. The members of the staff were tremendously helpful. The ambiance of the hotel from the lobby all the way to the room was incredible. The lobby exudes a fragrance that immediately creates vivid images of a luxiously pampering spa heaven. The origins of the aroma probably comes from the spa attached to the hotel, which specializes in Aveda products. (BONUS: They give you a sample shampoo and conditioner in your room). The negative mark is the 31 dollar parking fee, however its value is highlighted when considering the location in the city, the valet, the overnight parking, and they allow you to drive in and out of the lot without paying the fee again. I would recommend Hotel Monaco to anyone in an instant! Its beautiful, convenient, and worth every penny!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

For dining I would recommend going to the Portland City Grill. The lighting and the view is enough to take your breath away. As soon as I walked in, I thought to myself, "ok, so this is where my wallet is emptied," but the prices certainly do not match the mood set by the atmosphere.

Nice and quiet.

This hotel is right downtown, and yet I did not wake up due to noise once during the night. Really all I was after was a good night’s sleep-I did not spend much time at the hotel. There is a fan system in the room which can be left on for white noise, and it was barely needed due to the sound insulation. The room was not large, but there was plenty of space for one person. Showers were nice and everything was clean. This is my new place to stay in Portland.
