first trip to Hawaii with kids

Overall we were pleased with our stay. We have two young girls and this was our first trip to Hawaii. I was sure to book a hotel that had a free continental breakfast, one less meal to pay for. It’s was pretty good, it kept us satisfied until lunchtime. Our room was nice, staff was helpful, and we were walking distance to just about everywhere. I would have to say that the only down side to the hotel was the tiny pool and that fact that it wasn’t heated.

Good continetal breakfast. Close to shops and beach.

Great hotel, even greater service

The hotel was REALLY nice. Because it was on the smaller size, it had a personal feel to it. Not wanting to be right on Waikiki, I really loved the view of the Ala Wai Canal and mountains out our window for coffee in the morning. Breakfast was included, so it was so convenient to just grab it on our way out for the day instead of going out, waiting to be seated somewhere. It saved time and money. The bed was REALLY comfy. It was like sleeping at home. Even the bedding was not "hotel" like. The short walk to Waikiki Beach, like 3 blocks was enjoyable. You get mats and beach towels form the front desk to take with if you plan on a trip to the beach that day. And there are so many beaches to check out! I love that you don’t get charged for every little thing. The hotel has 4 flat screen computer bays for you to use anytime you need to check out places, or your E-mail. etc. Everyone was so friendly, whether it was Chrystal, or John or the valets. The car was always brought around within 2 minutes if that.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Unless you are a sunworshiper, I’d much rather stay just off Waikiki beach and save some money and beat the congestion. Why pay a premium when there are so many other things to see on the island.

Excellent value

This hotel is centrally located. Very close to nice restaurants, shops, clubs and only a block or two from the ocean. Breakfast was good (more than a standard continental). There was an internet center free for guests. Rooms were more than just comfortable and were exceptionally clean. I would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Very close to many bars, clubs, and restaurants.

thanks Coconut

Spent one week at the end of August with family at Best Western Coconut.Nice stay overall, good location, nice breakfast, friendly people, very clean. The only complain I have was that the 2 queen bedroom we had was kind of small for 2 adults 2 kids. Anyway,I will definetly recomand this.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

for car parking you can look first for available spots on Ala Wai Blvd which is free.

Don’t stay on 2nd floor near street

We stayed in this hotel to move my daughter into college. We had one room on the 2nd floor near the street. Pretty small, but very clean and big flat screen TV. I would not recommend this location as the street is EXTREMELY busy at all hours of the day and the 2nd floor is just too close. Stay up on a higher floor (we moved to the 10th floor) or on the other side of the building. The staff was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and helpful and always very pleasant. Delicious breakfast in the morning for free including make your own waffles, fresh fruit, juice, cereal, and baked goods. Lovely atmosphere to eat breakfast in. Free wifi and computers to use in the lobby. Easy to walk to the main drag in Waikiki and plenty of restaurants within walking distance as well and the beach. I wouldn’t rate this hotel as 3 1/2 stars. It’s more like a 3 star. Hawaii seems to have a different rating system then every other place in the US.

Traveler's tip

There is absolutely no street parking if you have a car so be prepared to pay $22/day for parking at the hotel. You can go in and out as many times as you want, but of course then you also have to tip the valet each and every time.

Nice inexpensive hotel.

We were 3 blocks off the beach. The hotel room we had was a studio type room with the most comfy king sized bed. Nice flat screen, balcony, and clean. The hotel’s continental breakfast was filled with waffles, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and pastries (often with meat inside of them).

Traveler's tip

Eat the continental and use the free internet, we did.

Great Value for the Money

After a lot of research I decided that this would be the best value for the money. I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel was great. Just a couple blocks from shopping and the beach. The hotel staff was very friendly and the concierge set up a couple of events for us. Two things that made this place awesome was the continental breakfast and the free wifi.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Have the concierge book your rental car. It will save you $30 or more per day depending on the type of car you get.

Great experience!

We are very very satisfied with the mountain view king bedroom! The view on the balcony is so nice, the room so clean and welcoming, the breakfast is very good too...but the room may be smaller than I expected, the distance to the beach a little farther too.

Coconut Waikiki- July 19 - July 25 2009

This was my first trip to Coconut Wakiki hotel and I have not one complaint to make. The hotel to the staff was exceptional. I will stay at this hotel my trip to Hawaii next year. This was my third trip to Hawaii and my previous stays were at the Hale Koa(Military) and the Coconut Wakiki was on par with the Hale Koa. Every Thursday they serve a complimentary Signature Drink in the Lobby until 8pm.

Very Impressed

The Best Western Coconut Waikiki Hotel is a great place to stay when you are in Honolulu. The rooms are comfortable, the staff is always seeking a way to make your stay pleasant, and the location can’t be beat. In our travels to the Caribbean, Europe, and Central America we have often been disappointed by supposed five-star hotels. The Best Western Coconut Waikiki Hotel was the best hotel we have ever stayed at. We could not think of anything negative to say about the room or staff. In our return visits to Honolulu, we will only stay at the Best Western Coconut Waikiki Hotel.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You really should get a rental car but to save on the headache of parking in Honolulu, ride the bus. You can get a 4-day bus pass that offers unlimited rides. The system is pretty simple and seemed to run very smoothly. I enjoyed walking to most sites but one of the malls turned out to be quite a hike. Also, get a GPS with your rental! The street signs are tough to see and the traffic lights are located in different spots as you try to dodge jay-walking tourist.

Smaller and quiet hotel that is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Honeymoon stay...The staff were helpful, nice, and efficient than one could ask for. The room (Exec Suite) was as nice as the pics made them look. The paint was light & airy. The furnishings were all nice & in great shape, 42" LCD TV, bathrooms were nice, plenty of closet/storage space, & kitchenette w/ everything but a stove. Continental breakfast each morning. The kind of items they serve were four or five different cereals, waffles made from their cool little waffle makers (they’re tasty), muffins/pastries, fresh pineapple, & breakfast beverages. Already included in your stay, it’s a great bonus. Again, amazing staff they have across the board in terms of service. The valets always prompt to take care of your vehicle. That’s another plus of being at a "smaller" hotel, you don’t have to contend with 3000 other people needing things at the same time. The hotel is indeed a good three blocks away from the closet beach. However, unless you’re incredibly out of shape or disabled, these walks are no issue. There are numerous eating & shopping options w/in walking distance of the hotel. In terms of location, because the hotel is smaller & located off the beach it is a much quieter atmosphere. For everything this hotel "lacked" it made up for and then some in one way or the other...sometimes it’s the intangibles that count. GREAT HOTEL, GREAT PRICE, GREAT STAFF!

Traveler's tip

If you rent a car, rent a 4-cylinder as gas is a little expensive on the island and there are plenty of things to see and do all over the island. Not to mention, A/C is generally a must because even with the windows down the hot, humid, thick breeze can sometimes require the A/C to be on even if you’re used to 2-60 A/C(2 windows down at 60mph). Other than that, just have fun and relax, you’ll be in Hawaii!!!

Great little find in Waikiki

This was a very cute boutique hotel. The property and rooms were clean and functional. The staff was very helpful and the amenities were well appreciated (internet connection and morning breakfast). Will definitely consider this hotel next time we’re on Oahu.

Quiet, Clean, Comfortable Hotel

The front desk staff were outstanding and helpful with any request. The place was quiet, comfortable, very clean, and newly renovated. Only drawback is no restaurant and the halls are warm.

Friendly Hotel

The staff at this hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel had been completely renovated recently so everything was new and extremely clean. The room had a small kitchen and the staff did the dishes - that was great! The only thing we would do differently next time would be to have our room facing the canal. The room we had faced the apartments next store and it was not a pleasant view with so many residents storing junk on their balconies. The hotel was centralized, close to all shopping and about three blocks to the beach. We would definitely stay here again.

Awesome Hotel!

I recently went to Oahu, Hawaii and after much research on hotels, I chose the Best Western Coconut Waikiki Hotel, an Aqua Boutique. I chose this hotel because I had not found any recent complaints about it. Well it was an excellent choice! The staff is extremely friendly and the hotel is very clean. The bed was very comfortable and to top it off, the view was splendid. I plan to return to Oahu next year and intend on staying at this hotel again.

Great L’il Hotel

In a nutshell so that you don’t waste time online: Excellent staff, excellent rooms, free wifi and breakfast, very near great shopping yet far enough from the teeming crowds of Waikiki. A 15min walk from the beach - if you’re like me and love seeing cities on foot, you’ll enjoy the scenic walk. Wld defi stay here again.

Very Nice Hotel....Can’t Wait to go back!!!

The Aqua Coconut is a very nice hotel. Believe me I am picky about hotels and this one did not disappoint!! It was only a short walk to the beach, and even closer to downtown stores and restaurants! The worst part of our stay was that the breakfast was disappointing, but there are so many coupons on the street for nearby restaraunts that we chose to eat at the hotel only a couple times. Free wi-fi in the rooms was nice and also they had three desktop computers with printer in the lobby for use. Room was clean, a tad small. The wet bar and the microwave and refrigerator were great! They even supplied dishes and plates and utensils if needed! Just a little tip there is a Costco about a fifteen minute drive from hotel and it was great for bottled water and snacks! Also they have the cheapest gas on the island, so that was helpful as well. The parking fee at the hotel was alot ($30 bucks a day) but all the hotels charge this. Traffic nearby the hotel is crazy for getting around by car, but not really the hotels fault. Street noise is noticable from room, but not too bad. Lanai was nice but we never used it. Overall we were satisfied with this hotel and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a great trip to Hawaii! By the way this was our third trip to Hawaii and our second to Oahu and I think that if we go back to Oahu and we stay in Honolulu then we definitely would return!!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

There is bus service just one block from hotel and if you didnt want to rent a car this bus takes you everywhere we traveled by car. We saw them all over the island...definitely will keep this in mind for next time. You can get a four day pass for $20 each person. Might be worth is since traffic around downtown and nearby city is nightmare!!

Very impressed, Beds were great, rooms were very clean, would stay again

Very impressed with this hotel, beds were great, room was very clean, and the hotel staff was helpful and always cheerful. The breakfast was more than just an advertised continental breakfast as they had fresh fruit and warm pastry as well. The view we had from our room of the canal and mountains was beautiful. The only thing I even find wrong about the place was the road noise coming up from the street was a bit load at night...ear plugs worked great. We would most likely stay again.

Nice hotel and team -

We (family of four) spent one week from March 10th to 17th at Best Western Coconut Waikiki. We globally enjoyed our time in this hotel even if it was not as great as we were expecting What we liked: Hotel and room are pretty clean. Beds/mattresses are really confortable. Staff was already nice and friendly. Always helpful upon request. First day, we forgot one camera in the airport shuttle: they helped to call the bus company and we retrieved it later that day at the hotel office. Room furnitures were nice and working (including fridge). Business center in the lobby is quite convenient (allow to print easily electronic tickets for example) What we didn’t like: - Breakfast is light and frugal (continental-like) but sufficient to us. - Swimming pool is pretty small and not well-situated. Never saw anyone swimming in it - Small Bedroom: in our case, we had 2 twin beds in a small bedroom. - Street noise: read that in other reviews. True that rooms on street are noisy. But it didn’t really prevent us for sleeping anyway!!
