Superb, distinctive hotel in Austin
I was a bit wary about booking a Curio room at the Driskill and expected a tiny room. In fact the room I got was large and extremely comfortable, with a huge bathroom. The only window (discreetly curtained) overlooked an alley, but this was no problem for me. The hotel itself had exceptional Texan character – the longhorn and cowboy sculpture in the bar was perhaps my favorite, and I also loved the books and art in the hallways. The only possible disadvantage to the Driskill might be its location on 6th Street, which is full of bars – but I didn’t feel unsafe, I couldn’t hear noise from my room on the fifth floor, and it was a well trafficked and central location, a short walk from the state capitol and shopping areas. After this experience I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in downtown Austin.

Many great restaurants nearby, check out the happy hours. Bus from the airport stops across the street.
