Coyaba - Excellent resort, except the cost of food

Excellent indeed - the Hotel is well maintained and the service is excellent. We went during off peak to get the extra savings, and we really enjoyed our stay. Bobby the pool guy went the extra mile to get us water coconut and that was really nice. The beach access and activities are excellent also - and FREE :) The facilities are well kept, and the staff are very friendly - especially at the front desk. The Food is really good, especially the native night - the only problem is that the all inclusive price is unbelievable expensive. We got the breakfast plan and that worked out well, but beside the high cost of food, the place is excellent.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Make sure you ask how much things cost before you book or take taxi service - if you do the planning with the resort and pay the resort directly, you have less chance of getting ripped off - we found out the hard way :)

Outstanding Service

This was an outstanding place to stay and I would stay again and again if I could. There were only 2 items I think need to be improved. We were on the 3rd floor and this place has NO elevator...in normal conditions this would be fine but with temp being 115 our entire stay the heat kills you before you reach the 1st floor. Also food service stops at 11:00pm and there is NO food to be found anywhere on the resort...not even a vending machine. There needs to be some sort of "snack" service 24 hours. (chips, fruit,nuts...anything would help) other than those items this place is great and the staff is to die for.

Jamacia me Crazy!

I had a very nice stay at Coyaba Beach resort. I staff was very curtious and freindly. The gounds and private beach were very well maintained. The LIVE nightly entertainment was very carribean and GOOD! The horseback riding was the best excursion I’ve ever been on and I’ve been around the world. The guides were friendly, helpful, experienced and funny. And the ride through the villages and old ruins were awsome. The Dunn river falls trip is a must see and do. Everyone should have a vist like this one.

Not impressed

The properties adjesent to this hotel were unoccupied and a breeding place for mosquitos, if you go to this hotel take repellent. The hotel had only one restaurant although adequate limits your selection. This is a quiet place for the older set the beach was small but clean.

Quaint Hotel with Good Service

This is a small hotel with all the amenities. There are 3 restaurants on property offering classic American foods as well as seafood and some Jamaican cuisine. The prices varied from $10-12 for lunch up to $38 for a seafood platter. They have a weekly manager’s reception with free food and drinks. I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, knowing your name within the first day of our stay. The rooms are spacious but the bathrooms could use a little updating. I wasn’t fond of the surrounding area, but I would go back to this hotel again. Once there, you can upgrade to all inclusive if you desire. Great service.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Walk up to the Blue Diamond shopping center for snacks/drinks to lower your hotel cost. Cab fare into town is $20 each way, but there are a few restaurants that will provide a free shuttle service. The beach is small and man made, but well maintained and plenty of chairs.

Great even the 2nd Time around!

This was my second time staying at Coyaba. This was an R&R trip, so we stayed on teh resort and laid on the beach, ate good food, sipped great drinks, and enjoyed the activites that were available. The staff are so friendly and accomidating and even remembered me from the previous year. I will surely return again!

Bring bug repelent! Musquitos are everywhere!

Best ever!

Can’t say enough nice things about Coyaba! Staff extremely helpful and friendly--beyond expectations agaain and again. Food excellent--chef visited our table 2 or 3 times to welcome us and to get feedback. Room was charming, squeaky clean, and right on the beach--only a hammock and some palm trees between us and the surf! Beach is shallow--and the water as well--but both were certainly adequate for sunning & casual swimming; the dock ran out into the ocean and there were chairs and sun/shade for your comfort and pleasure. Nice pool. All the facilities were comfortable and very attractive, with lots of small nooks and niches for people to get away from others if so inclined. Altogether excellent--would return in a heartbeat!!!

Traveler's tip on dining

The all-inclusive package is an excellent value--no buffets, all meals from the same menu as non- guests and others on other plans choose from.

Coyaba Jamaica: I’m going back!

The Coyaba Resort is a GEM! Located between 2 famous resorts 2X the $. It is short cab ride from the airport. Other patrons seemed jealous when they saw our private resort! The food was great, with choices for sensitive stomachs & those who dare jerk ribs! Next time we will get the all inclusive, as their food and resources are excellent & includes more on-site activities. The tourist attractions were $$$ and hokey, but if we talked to staff they could make "special arrangements" so we had a better time and they made some $. We got to go privately snorkeling in a nearby coral reef (recommended!) in a hotel boat for just a staff tip. Tips was less than US standards, but made a great difference. Parents might not like it, as there aren’t planned activities. There were fresh exotic flowers everywhere along with free drinks, a water bottle & a snack on arrival. 2 days during the weekdays is a free happy hour with snacks. The staff is excellent! Do not hesitate to ask them anything, they’ll tell you the real deal. I felt very safe here. The ocean-view room is worth it! Great air conditioning, very clean rooms, nice toiletries, good water flow, privacy, and more than you can hope for! You will fall in love with this beautiful country. All inclusive in not needed, it is $$$, and without it you can travel to a new land at a reasonable cost.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask the staff if you want to do anything; they can arrange it at the hotel, often priced less or free, but a tip is expected. Forming a relationship with a staff member can save you service charges, if you tip. There were no restaurants or stores near the hotel, so make sure you plan your trips carefully. The hip-strip was scary near dusk. Don’t shop where the cabs stop, they cost 2X as much & the drivers get a beer for dropping you there! Locals make deals if you pay cash & reduce the $.

A Surprise find!

At first, we were a little skeptical upon driving onto the premises, since it’s off the road (but then, Sandals down the street is too). Quickly, and as we were spending more time there, we fell in love: amazing staff, fantastic service, quiet place. We were given a beach view room where we could see both sunrises and sunsets! Great for families, great for couples. The Vineyard restaurant was great for dinners, as they would create a new menu daily.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get the All-Inclusive deal so you don’t worry about spending on drinks or food (as it can add up), do the exchange with their sister resort in Negril, Country Country, for a change of scenery. Absolutely worth the $50 to hold your room, and you keep your all-inclusive privileges. Also, you can trust the locals and bargain for excursions like horseback riding, snorkeling etc. They rely on tourism for their economy and one bad review can hurt them and they want you to have a great experience!

Nice but not extraordinarily

A lot of reviews on this hotel show extraordinarily positive comments, but is that really so? Well, the hotel was nice indeed: clearn and confortable, but considering the amount that I paid, that should be so. We stayed on the ground floor which has the beach just ahead, this was tremendously wonderful. Eating inside the hotel seemed to cost too much therefore we went out to the downtown. However the transportation there was insane; $30 for both ways but just for less than 10 min ride each way...

Will definitely visit again!

The Coyaba is a small resort - perfect for those travelers not interested in a large hotel teaming with people and truly looking to relax. Its quaint and the private beach is clean, quiet, low key. The rooms were extremely well maintained and the staff was lovely. My husband and I has a wonderful romantic weekend together...we will definitely be visiting the Coyaba again!

Excellent Hospitable Friendly going back soon Wonderful

"Coyaba" exactly what it means HEAVEN! The best resort we’ve stayed in, in awhile. Service and attention given at every turn, check-in, wait staff, maid service, bartenders, food preparation. Jamaican Omelette for breakfast with jerk sausage. Forget the rum punch get the Special. A very nice clean beach, plenty of sun, a breeze and the Special sounds like HEAVEN to me!!!

Traveler's tip

Get a couple of Cuban Habanas and a bottle of Appleton Estates finest 30 year rum. Sit on the end of the dock about midnight and listen to the waves break on the reef and the music from the juke joints, HEAVEN on earth. Enjoy!

Beautiful and Relaxing

My husband and I spent 5 glorous days at Coyaba. The resort is lovely and intimate with lushly landscaped grounds. We had an oceanview jr. suite which was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The beach area is small but picture perfect- ideal for small boating activies, relaxing on a float or reading under a thatched umbrella. The Coyaba staff is one of the most friendly and attentive that I’ve seen anywhere. And the food at The Vineyard was fabulous- we ate off the resort once and there was no comparison. We definitely hope to go back to Coyaba again.

Nice small hotel located in Montego Bay. Lots of charm, personalized attention.

We were very pleased with the Coyoba resort. We were looking for a small hotel with personalized service and charm. The staff was very pleasant. The food was generally very good. There was not a lot of entertainment options within the resort or immediate area, but we hired a driver to take us around the island. Also, we spent one day at the sister resort in Negril which gave us the option of spending time on the beautiful beaches while still using our all inclusive hotel status.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Go to the locals for advice and tour options. You will not need to travel with swarms of people this way and the rates that you negotiate will be much better than the Hotel Concierge Service.

The most relaxing place we’ve ever visited....

The moment you set foot in the lobby, your blood pressure will drop. The hotel is beautiful and the staff will treat you like you’ve known them for 20 years. They are really good at anticipating your needs without crowding you. If you appreciate great food, the Coyaba will not disappoint. The chef prepares four-star meals, including authentic Jamaican cuisine. Even breakfast each morning was something to look forward to. The beach is immaculate and private with its own dock, which provides great views of the sunset. If you want activities, the best golf courses and scuba in Jamaica are 10-15 minutes away. You can do as much or as little as you want and have a great time. We definitely want to go back!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stick to excursions that are relatively close if possible. The traffic can be frustrating.

Need help in a few areas.

Our hotel stay would have been excellant but during our stay is rained most of the trip; our room started leaking and instead of being moved right away to another room we had to ask for different room after listening to the rain drop in trash buckets all night and getting up through the night to empty them. I think someone needs another class in the customer care area.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try dining away from the hotel; the food is basic and probably the same things that you get at home.

Great Resort

very relaxing! The staff was very friendly. The rooms were excellent. The beach was great for laying around in shade or sun and enjoying the incredible view and ocean breezes. The swimming area is really only good for an occasional cool off, as it is small and there is a good amount of seaweed under the water. Most people don’t really swim at the beach much anyhow though. They have several decks, one on the beach and some hammocks back under the palms. Good place to lay down with a rum punch or red stripe. Good pool and hot tub as well. Upon arriving, the staff was very helpful and friendly. They brought everyone a rum punch and cold scented towels to cool off. The main restaurant was very good! I didn’t try the food from the other dining areas, mostly just drinks. The breakfasts are particularly good there. You would definitely enjoy your stay at the Coyaba!

Traveler's tip on dining

If you stay at the Coyaba or are in the MoBay area, I would highly recommend a restaurant very nearby called the "Sugar Mill". Make reservations with them and they will send a driver to pick you up. Amazing dining!

Great Hotel, CLEAN, GREAT SERVICE!

Good things about the hotel: -Great service, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and satisfied. -Good air conditioners and comfortable beds and pillows! A great plus for me. No problem sleeping! -The food was good at the hotel, but it starts getting expensive if you don’t have an all inclusive plan. Cons: (but not really a con, more of a preference) -If you are used to seeing a lot of people, or enjoy having a lot of activities at the hotel (example, volleyball, water aerobics etc), you will not like it. It is very quiet and relaxing hotel. Unless you leave the hotel, not much to do at night expect have drinks at the bar. But overall its a great place!!!! Would definitely go back and recommend.

Traveler's tip on dining

New Yorkers especially! Learn to relax when waiting for food in Jamaica. Service is not as fast as New York. (Talking in general, not in specific to the hotel)

Great destination for relaxation.

This resort is perfect for those who want a peaceful getaway and low key vacation with GREAT food and a huge selection of alcohlic drinks. The customer service is wonderful with friendly staff in the restaurants, bars, and housekeeping. However, the staff at the front desk seemed impatient and unfriendly when approached. The grounds and the beach are beautiful, but the beach is sludgey...not good for wading. There are also no waves due to the reef not far from the beach. The resort was never crowded, and at times we had the beach all to ourselves. There are planty of chairs on the beach and by the pool. The dock is nice, and a wonderful spot to catch the sunset. Overall, we were really pleased with this resort and amazed by the food at Vineyards. The quality of food and drinks were well beyond expectation for the all-inclusive plan. We would love to come back in the winter.

Quiet and beautiful. On the beach with plenty of water activities to indulge in. Not a lot of traffic. Ideal for honeymoon ...w/ busy night life strip 15 minutes away when ready,

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Not many attractions close by. Watch out for all soveigner shops disguised as the shopping strip. Same products in every store and everyone is hustling to get your dollar.

Intimate, Lush, Relaxed

The small size of this resort makes for a friendly, intimate experience. Lush, well-kept grounds are a haven for hummingbirds, get up early for the sunrise and possibly a look at the sting-ray that lives at the end of the dock. Sandy beach is groomed daily and there’s plenty of room. Gentlemen, take a nice pair of trousers, dress-up with the lady and have a cocktail at the Polo Grounds upstairs before dinner. The food overall was very good, but we were promised that it will even improve with some new staff lately brought on. A great place to rediscover the magic in your romance.

Great Hotel

If you want a quiet and peaceful trip then Coyaba is it! It is also great if you have young children, the water is excellent for them as it is very calm and they can fish on the pier with Mr. Ally; they will just have so much fun. The staff is super friendly! We cannot wait to go back. We will definitely be staying at Coyaba on my next trip!
