Southern Hospitality at its Finest

As frequent visitors to Charleston, my daughter and I are familiar with most of the hotels and restaurants in the area. This was our first stay at the Planters’ Inn but it certainly will not be our last. Staff members were polite and prompt with any request for service and the room was bright, spotless, and nicely appointed with tasteful decorating and comfortable period furniture. The hotel is convenient to shopping, churches, tours, and cultural events. The courtyard is perfect for a quiet breakfast or late afternoon drink and the parlor is a picturesque room for morning coffee and the chance to watch the hustle and bustle of Market and Meeting Streets. The Peninsula Grill, the hotel’s own highly acclaimed restaurant, has been, along with S.N.O.B. on East Bay, a highlight and a requirement of any visit to Charleston.

Take a taxi to and from the airport and skip the rental fee plus parking fees. Walking is the way to get around in the historic district. The Palmetto Cafe in the Charleston Place Hotel has a delicious brunch on Sundays and always serves a memorable lunch. Try the sampler for a taste of four different house specialties. S.N.O.B. on East Bay is a relaxing, updated look at Southern cooking, highly recommended for either lunch or dinner. Small plates in addition to larger entrees keep the menu fresh and interesting. House specialties that continue to delight and raise expectations are always the order of the day. I am never disappointed in this restaurant. High Cotton, across the street from S.N.O.B., was another pleasant surprise. The atmosphere for both lunch and dinner was calm and quiet with a level of service that I have rarely seen outside of Charleston. It’s like being a guest at someone’s home. Make sure to take a carriage ride from the Slave Market and visit any of the historic houses in the area. Each one is more beautiful than the next. The Charleston Museum, the oldest public museum in the U.S., is a great place to start for some historical background on Charleston by way of its permanent exhibit. Ghost tours and the aquarium are priorities and the Visitors’ Center or hotel concierge can provide you with information on day trips to local plantations and house tours. After twelve trips to this city, I have not run out of things to see and look forward to a return trip this spring or summer.

Most beautiful and romantic place !!!!

For our 3rd anniversary me and my girlfriend were staying in the Plantation King room. It was gorgeous !!! On the pictures of the website, the room seems spacious, but when we entered...we couldn’t believe it. It was almost an apartment ! Service was really friendly and efficient. The location is unique. It’s on the market place and so it’s THE place to be during the day, for dinner and for the nightlife !!! It was really an unforgettable stay.

comfort with understated luxury

Made the mistake of staying here first, because everywhere else was a let down. Friendly service , excellent furnishings, convenient and a good value ( even at the top end of charleston offerings). could not recommend too strongly.
