Nice for a change
If you’re looking for a comfortable, traditional hotel outside the center of Oslo but in one of its finest residential neighborhoods, this is a very good bet. The hotel is a charming old building that is well decorated and maintained. My spacious superior single had a queen bed and free internet. The "international" staff try to be helpful but don’t know much, and the chain restaurant, Egon, that has replaced the acclaimed Magma, is adequate at best, although the free breakfast is good and ample. There is an excellent small wine bar with very good pizza just down the block, and Feinschmecker, one of Oslo’s finest restaurants, is just a block away - check them out. You can also enjoy concerts at Frogner church and films at nearby Gimle kino.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
You can walk to and from the center of Oslo in 30 minutes along Henrik Ibsen’s Gate and Bygdoy Alle, lovely and safe streets to walk. If you must ride, avoid the expense of a taxi and buy a standard bus ticket in a Narvesen, 7-Eleven or from the machine at the bus stop (it’s cheaper than buying it on the bus), getting off at Frogner Kirke, which is just steps from the hotel door.
