Hotel management in disarray
We prepaid for our honeymoon with Expedia. Our stay was nice - except for surliness from the dining staff - until we discovered that the hotel did not honor our prepayment and charged us for stay, without telling us at check out. After a week, we have still not been reimbursed by Ventana. Caveat emptor.

pricey but worth it
Everything about Ventana is first class, from the room, the service, the spa, and the food. Of course the setting at Big Sur cannot be beat. The main restaurant is still burned down, so you can only eat at the small restaurant they set up in the reception area, with no view, but the food is good. We were told they will begin rebuilding the restaurant this summer.
