Great spot for a vacation
The rooms were really quiet in spite of the place seeming full. I enjoyed the fireplace, extremely large jacuzzi tub and the balcony looking over the river. I did not eat at the resturaunt as I read the reviews and didnt realize that there is a pizza place and a more "upscale" dining area. The market in El Portal had a fine selection of food and beverage at reasonable prices so that was the option I chose. It was nice to get up and drive right into Yosemite from there. The only thing I would have liked would be in room wireless as there is poor reception in that area and the on-line process to sign up for the wireless in the lobby took forever.
When you are in Yosemite, stop at the store in the village for snacks. Great selection of goodies and souveniers.

Good location but basic
The hotel is in need of upgrading. The people are nice and accommodating. The location is right at the entrance to Yosemite. There are very few choices for eating. You basically have the hotel restaurants to choose from. They are reasonably priced and offer a variety of options. Merced River runs behind the hotel and offers pleasing sounds and sights. The hotel is very large and draws a lot of people. The room was large and comfortable but dated. Pricing is a bit high but you pay for location.
Be sure to take the drive to Glacier Point and take in hikes on the many trails they have in the park. Amazing sights. Bring your camera.

Yosemites Best Just Outside the Park
We had a wonderful time staying at the Yosemite View Lodge. Our room overlooked the Merced River and the surrounding hillsides. At this time of the year, the place was perfect for us: quiet, cool, not crowded at all. The room had everything we needed: a kitchenette, two queen beds, a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, an electric fireplace, etc. The place is conveniently close to Yosemite, probably the closest lodge outside the park. We could easily drive in every day and it would take us about 30 minutes from our door to Yosemite Lodge. We highly recommend this place if you want an affordable and clean place outside the park.
Yosemite is crowded in the summer. Its best to go there in the off-season. Even though we went when it was least crowded BEFORE the snow, there was a line of people climbing up the Vernal Falls Trail. Not too bad, but I recommend going during the week.
