Ramada Lake Shore- Decent
The hotel was pretty decent. A little outdated. When I walked in the room it was SO hot I thought I was going to pass out. After opening all the windows it finally cooled down in a few hours. The shuttle to the University of Chicago was very crowded and doesnt run frequently enough. Overall, the experience was just OK. It was the closest I could get to the University so I won’t complain.

Good no frills hotel close to U of C
The room was clean, although furnishings dated and TV reception poor. The first room were were given had a problem, but we were given a new room without any problem. The best features of the hotel are the proximity to the University of Chicago and the free parking - and the very reasonable room rates. Also, it is in a safe neighborhood within Hyde Park - the lake is across the "street" and its just down the street from the Hyde Park Art Center - a hidden gem we discovered during our stay.

Tired but sufficient
The hotel is the closest to the University of Chicago. It is dated and less then well maintained. That said, it is fully sufficent. For those looking for a practical solution around the University, it is fine. For those looking for a bit of a holiday, look elsewhere.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
It is quit near the renovated Museum of Science and Industry, with its one of a kind U Boat from World War II. Also the Lake Michigan bikepaths are immediatly accessible from it.
