A good option for saving money
Near a subway station and on a important and full of life avanue. The building is a very old construction and the furniture is also very old. The hotel has not been updated in a while. Very friendly staff. Breakfast is not very good. Additionally the dinning room has just five tables, so there is a great chance you have to make a line and wait for the next available table.

Hotel Augustea Overbooks prepaid rooms-transfers to lesser hotels
My husband, father-in-law and I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights while in Rome. When we arrived in the morning we were told that we would have to sleep 3 to a room. I explained that we paid for 2 rooms and the manager said he would get us a room in the other hotel in the building which is located in the same building at 251 Via Nazionale for 2 nights and we would change rooms to the Augustea on the 3rd night. My father-in-law would stay in the Augustea the entire 3 days. Some friends were travelling with us and also staying at the Augustea without a problem. The 5th floor room at other hotel was awful - we had to move a large heavy armoire to get to the light switch and thermostat, the wall paper was peeling, the telephone was not operational, the bedspread and furnishings were quite worn, the shower leaked water on the floor, the shower water ran icy cold or scalding hot without warning and the room looked shabby and not very clean. Our friends and father-in-laws rooms in the Augustea were much nicer, cleaner, flat screen TVs, modern bathroom fixtures. On the 3rd night when we moved to the Augustea we also had a nice room. If they had to find us another room the staff at the Augustea should have given us a comparable room. The other hotel we stayed in was a dump and the room rate was certainly less than what we prepaid for the Augustea. We did not appreciate the Hotel Augusteas bait and switch tactics

Would not go back
We did not like the hotel at all. There where several problems: Overall it was not clean beginning with the entance and the elevator. The exaustor in our bathroom was so noisy that we would not switch on the light (only one switch for both). Very thin walls so that we would hear the people in the corridor. The breakfast room was so small that people could not sit comfortably on the tables. Overpriced for the level of comfort
