3rd time is a charm!...so was the 1st and 2nd.

This was our third trip back to the Barcelo Bavaro. We love coming here. The beach is gorgeous and staying in the Palace this time was a nice upgrade. the Palace Deluxe is the new hot spot, however and looks beautiful. The Deluxe used to be the Beach Hotel (where we stayed last time), but has undergone a face lift and looks beautiful. There’s a great swim up bar at the Palace too. The new restaurant, La Brisa, was our favorite and had wonderful ambiance. We enjoy the Steakhouse as well (great pizza!...order the Vesuvio, it’s not listed on the menu), but were disappointed that they got rid of the takeaway counter where you used to be able to order a pizza and get a to-go box for the beach. Now you have to sit down to order it. 4 or 5 restaurants were closed this time. Not sure if it was because of off season or under construction, but there are 5 great restaurants to choose from and plenty of selection.

Make sure you try to bargain with the beach beach vendor locals (flea market). Everything is overpriced and they expect to negotiate with you. Beware, they will not let you leave until you’ve spent a good chunk of the money you walk in with. If you want to limit yourself, only bring the amount you are willing to spend. You’ll be surprised that they’ll come down to your price level.

nice hotel;horrible service

The hotel is quite nice;however the service is horrible. All employees looked over worked and exhausted. Check in took 3 hours.. There was no one available in the reservation area to help with any questions. The receptionist did the best she could with no help of management. The hotel did not have enough employees working during peak times. The buffet was great. The beds are hard and quite uncomfortable. They have no vents in the bathroom so when you take a bath all the mirrors become foggy. The only way to prevent this is to leave the A/C on.... overall the hotel is nice, just dont expect friendly people, you have to figure it all out yourself.
