A good place to stay for people persons

With maritime themes and decor adorning this old brick building and big bolts sticking out of the brick and timbers, this unlikely 4-star hotel is unique not only in its decor but in its personable, professional staff - some of the most genuine people I have met. The hotel seems to embrace the idea that travel is a social opportunity, and their warm, spacious reception area, evening wine gatherings and friendly, gracious staff make socializing easy. The desk clerk and doorman were as helpful offering dining and entertainment suggestions as the concierge. The rooms: again, nautical themes but comfortable with obvious thought given to room arrangement and appointments. Ample floor space, iPod-ready clock radio, power strip on the desktop, huge bathroom counter-top with Aveda products, bathroom nightlight, good shower water-pressure, soft thick towels, keyless room safe, sofa with ottoman, lights where you need them, tv with dvd and lots of movie options, and animal-print bathrobes. Hotel situated close to where the cable cars turn around near Fisherman’s Wharf, and the doorman will bust a gut getting you a cab RIGHT NOW to go anywhere you want. All kinds of great dining options along the streets, bristling with tourists, couples and people walking small dogs, with postcard views of the bay. Fun and relaxing. A more traditional hotel is easy to find, but I recommend giving this place on the off chance you might discover a part of the travel experience you’ve been missing.

Perfect all around EXCEPT

The hotel staff was fantastic...very courteous and extremely helpful. The hotel was clean and in a great location. The only issue was that the Standard King room was long and narrow and the heater made an awful noise when it turned on...not very comfortable if you ask me. The walls were pretty thin too...we could hear our neighbors and EVERYTHING they were doing. However, after the 1st night I couldn’t take the neighbors anymore and asked to be moved to another room. The front desk asked no questions and immediately moved us to another room down the hall which turned out to be a room with a view and the bigger King room.It was MUCH more comfortable and spacey...MUCH BETTER! I recommend going with the deluxe king room if you want any comfort...the standard king is just too small.

Excellent Value

Excellent value and attentive staff. The room was large and comfortable. While the location is a bit removed from the business scene, the proximity to parks and wharf make it an excellent location for runners. The staff at the restaurant were outstanding.. friendly and prompt service.
