Great place to stay, clean but very dated

I’d definitely stay here again because of the great value, however set your expectations for a very dated place and you’ll be pleasantly satisfied. Great floor plan and the grounds are immaculate. Five stars for cleanliness, but units are dated. Be aware that there is no air conditioning, and the rooms rely on natural cross-breeze. Fine for me, but some might not be comfortable without air. Roosters across the island in the AM are a problem so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Ocean in front of condo is not suitable for swimming, but pool is wonderful. Staff was friendly but not at all accommodating for a late check-out (check-out time is noon), even though no one was checking into the room that day and they didn’t clean the room until late late afternoon.

Safeway is just a few miles up the street - cooking at home saves a ton of money. Also print a map before arriving as the place is tricky to find, especially at night. Bring a portable nav system to find condo and also to find your way around the island if you have one or can borrow one.

Ocean view

What we thought was a hotel was really a condo set in the middle of a huge park, which made it extremely quiet. Yes, there were chickens, but they didn’t bother me. The place itself was lovingly put together by the owners and in great shape. Open to the air. We had a third floor condo and could watch the sun rise over the ocean in the mornings. Snorkeling for beginners was just a short walk down a paved path in a rocked off pool, and great fun. Never very crowded. We had believed there was no maid service, but they surprised us halfway through our stay and came in and changed sheets and towels and took out the garbage and recycling. All in all, it was a lovely experience.

Rent a car for going about Kauai, but beware of the heavy traffic, narrow roads and one lane bridges.
