Not as good as last year.
My mom and I thought we would start an annual tradition of visiting Sedona. We stayed at Amara last year and had a wonderful time. This year was a different story. First, they say that there is no more tipping and it is included in your price for the hotel, however we felt the staff were less helpful and friendly than previous. It also appeared to be short-staffed (especially in the restaurant). They no longer have valet, which means you have to lug your bags up and down the hill or stop and park (they used to have valet which was very nice). There is a cart that will take you to your car, but plan on waiting a bit if you use that option. Calling desk for things missing from room was a mess. Either no response or didnt act on request. Restaurant service poor.

one issue
Our only issue with this hotel was the location of our room. We were immediately adjacent to the dining patio which had a firepit enjoyed until late into the evening. The first night we were there, the noise level was sufficiently high to prevent us from sleeping. Unfortunately, they were full and could not relocate us.

Slightly Dissapointed
The rooms are really small, so if you have children there is not enough room for them to move around. We did not know that the dining is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This should have been pointed out when we reserved the room. There is limited parking space for your vehicle.

Excellent Choice
Weve stayed at several other hotels in Sedona over the past 15 years, and with children this one rates among the best choices.
Get off early after a rain for the best Pink Jeep experience (without the dust).

Wonderful boutique hotel in the best location in Sedona
The Amara is great. First, the room was modern, very nice and the bed was so comfortable. The free breakfast buffet was a bonus. The hotel is located next to the best spot in Sedona. You can walk or take the hotel golf cart up the hill to all the shops, cafes, restaurants. Location, location, location! The front desk staff is so accomidating, the suggested a wonderful tour to the Grand Canyon that was first class all the way. The restaurant offers outside dining in a gorgeous setting. The property is right on Oak Creek, we walked down there every day. My husband and I couldnt have been happier.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
We selected Silver Spur tours to take us to the Grand Canyon. They were exceptional and first class all the way. We had a gourmet lunch, great guide and saw tons along the way. The were so wonderful. When I booked the tour they offered to take my husband and I around Sedona that day - at no cost. It was one of the best tours Ive been on. We say places in Sedona we would never have known were there if we drove the area on our own. You wont be disappointed.

Enjoyed our 3 nights stay
The service was phenomenal. The hotel is located at the bottom of a steep hill that can be exhausting to climb in the heat. However, the hotel offered a mobile cart service to bring you to uptown Sedona. The continental breakfasts were wonderful and also provided a break for our wallets! We also enjoyed the comforts of the room and the cleaniness. We would definitely return.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
This hotel is located next to the shops at Uptown Sedona. We noticed alot of the shops have the same merchandise. It got old fast. To really enjoy & experience Sedona, you need to get out and explore the trails, vortexes, & beautiful scenery. Our favorite was Palataki ruins.

Very peaceful location
This hotel feels far from the hustle and bustle of the main street, but in reality is within walking distance. Granted up a very steep hill, but the excercise felt good OR the staff was more than willing and available to drive you up the hill and bring you back to the hotel. Service was great, breakfast was good and after a rather stressful trip, this was a very peaceful place to relax for a few days. I look forward to staying here again!

Paradise in Sedona
A tuly wonderful spot awaits you in Sedona, Arizona, at the Amara Inn. We stayed for several days last week and had a wonderful time. The facility is located down the hill from the premiere shopping and dining section of downtown Sedona, just steps from Oak Creek. The hotel is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The service and attitude of all staff at the Inn was exemplary. The next time youre in Arizona, do what we will do from now on, treat yourself with a visit to the Amara, you will be quite pleasantly surprised.
No tipping facility. Pool and spa have salt water - do not miss a visit to the pool & spa!

Excellent Getaway
I took my 16 year old daughter on a short trip and we found the hotel to be the perfect location for our stay. The grounds and room were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to assist us. It was nice to be off the main highway, away from the traffic noise but close enough to walk to local shopping and dining. We also found the beds to be extremely comfortable. I am definitely planning a return stay with my wife. The Amara is wonderful hotel in a beautiful city.

Excellent views, service & amenities
This resort is spectacular. In the heart of Sedona - walking distance to the main street shops and restaurants - but far enough away that it is a quiet oasis. Excellent service (free golf cart transportation, free morning yoga classes and more!), beautiful views in which the architeture and landscaping frames, and comfortable beds.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Ask about all the amenities they provide when you check in.

Boring.
Location is excellent. However, it is down a hill so beware if you are walking. Especially at night, as there are no sidewalks. Not much to do there. Only 1 restaurant and it is closed Sunday and Monday. Hotel maintenance not good. Stairway leading to our room looked like an insect science project. Views are magnificent. Front desk personnel were moderately cordial.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Lots of over priced shops within walking distance. Better to drive a little into town (hotel is located in whats called "uptown Sedona." Much better shopping in downdown Sedona. However, moderate to good restaurants nearby. "Elote" was far and away the best restaurant in all of Sedona. A masterful blend of Southwestern and Mexical cuisine. Dont miss it.

Grand Canyon , or Bust !
Amara Resort and Spa is a good choice for Sedona. I would say the level of service is consistent with a staff that are young and friendly, but dont have much experience and do their best. This suited us as the staff were unintrusive. The only slight annoyance was having to ask for a clean coffe cup etc at breakfast when they ran out. Your $20 per night/ per room covers breakfast and all gratuities which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast is adequate, but not much variety.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Sedona is a great base for visiting this area. We flew to Las Vegas and drove to Sedona, but thats a long drive so next time well fly direct to Flagstaff, or Sedona.

Clean, Comfortable and Convenient
This hotel was nice and convenient to shopping and restaurants, however, if you are looking for a nice pool and work out facility, choose another. Pool was very small with only a few lounge chairs and work out room had only two tread mills (one that was not working properly). Also, their restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday evenings for dinner.

Amara = Splendid Sedona Resort
Comfortable rooms. Solicitous staff. Ideal location, including gorgeous views of Red Rocks, in upper Sedona - although down a steep hill from Main Street, use the golf carts/drivers provided. Pool is small and can get crowded. Children, teens and younger, enjoyed playing in adjacent creek. Great breakfast included.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Pink Jeep Tour is amazing, especially Broken Arrow/Scenic Rim version. Wear sturdy shoes.

Great choice
Chose this hotel based on other reviews posted, and could not have been happier about it. For never having been to Sedona, this was the perfect location to be. The hotel is right in the middle of uptown Sedona and in walking distance of most everything we wanted to do. We would DEFINITELY stay there again and would recommend it!

Very impressed by the hotels room and amenities. Will go back again given the chance.
Nice and accomodating staff. No lines to check in. It feels like youre staying in your own house not a hotel because the surrounding is just like living in your own community. I was happy with my selection being first time in Sedona.
You can eat in the nearby reasonable restaurants and a lot of choices too. The shops are walking distance from the resort.

Perfect place
We stayed at the Amara in the "off-season" of July...the location was perfect because we had the seclusion of the resort yet a minute ride up the hill and we were in the bustling little center of Sedona with all the shops and restaurants. The staff could not have been nicer. Of course, since it was off season, the restaurant was closed during the week, we dined there on a Sunday evening under the stars and the food was fabulous. Our room overlooked the pool and we enjoyed sipping wine on the balcony while looking at the red rocks.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
the room comes with a nice sized frig...buy or bring some food and beverages with you.

What they dont tell you....
There is a superb yoga class daily at 8 a.m. sharp at the spa. There is complimentary bottled water in a cooler just outside check-in. The in-room coffee is horrible.
Traveler's tip on dining
100 Rox, the Amaras restaurant, is the best place in town. The seafood is superb, and the desserts were amazing.

Okay Resort
The Amara was clean but I expected more from this resort. The pool is small and not very clean. Customer service was okay. When checking in the staff were really sweet and helpful. We didnt get much help with our luggage when we were checking out because apparently they were really busy. Overall the rooms were comfortable but the amenities are not so great.

Exactly what I hoped for!
Located in the heart of Uptown Sedona,in walking distance of everything; it was the perfect location. The room was spacious and well appointed with the softest linens imaginable. The grounds were lovely and well maintained. My room had a beautiful view of the red rocks and Oak Creek running below. Service was impeccable, however the valet staff was absolutely the best. So friendly and helpful. I loved calling the desk for my car and finding it at the door waiting for me, with the a/c already on to cool it off and the door held open for me to just get in and drive off. The hotel restaurant was first class and rather reasonably priced. One thing missing was a microwave oven in the room. There was a good sized refrigerator but no way to warm up any food or leftovers I brought back from the restaurants. I did not have time to take advantage of the Spa offerings on this trip, which looked to be fabulous, but I would have liked to see prices for the spa services listed on their brochure. They say if you need to ask the price of something, you probably cant afford it, so I found the lack of pricing a bit intimidating. All in all I loved this resort and am already planning to return for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Great location and super service!
We had the signature room since the creekside rooms were all booked, but honestly the room we had had an even better view than the creekside because we could see the pool and Red Rocks from our balcony. Our bed was very comfortable. The hotel staff was always helpful. We liked being so close to all the parks and to the little shops in walking distance. The only thing we didnt like was having to wait for our car every time (you have to do valet). We personally would have liked to just have parked our own cars. We got massages our last day at the spa. It was very nice and relaxing. The only thing that could have been better would have been if the spa would have used a warming blanket like most spas use during massages to keep you from getting cold.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
We did all the hikes at Red Rocks. It was so fun because we had the place all to ourselves pretty much. We would also recommend going to Slide Rock. It is so fun, but the water is on the cold side (just like all water fresh running is). We were going to do Grasshopper Point, but didnt get time, next time though!

Delightful!
Staff was great from the moment you arrive to the time of your departure. Rooms were large and lovely with all the amenities of a hotel with lots of stars. Super cozy bed with tons of pillows, and at the heart of Sedonas main street and shops. We all loved it! Would go back next time for sure. Amazing views.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
They have a nice stargazing program for free each evening weather permitting. Very cool!
