What a view!
Let’s be honest, the main reason for staying here is the view. Overlooking the the rim of a smoking volcano is an experience not to be missed. The hotel is secondary. The room was fairly clean but old and dated including a broken shutter on the window. The best part was the great rocking chair. Convenience is also a plus since after a day of hiking it wasn’t necessary to drive all the way back to Hilo Service was also tremendously helpful. When I booked online, I booked that day instead of a future date. Hitting the back button to choose a room eliminated the date I had intended to book and I did not notice until a week or more later. I called the hotel and they straightened everything out. They could have told me I was out of luck since the date had passed, but the two women I spoke with couln’t have been nicer or more helpful! The spirit of aloha is alive and well at the Volcano House.

Hilo Gem
The staff was very polite and welcoming! We checked in around 10:30pm and the staff knew us by name!! The hotel is being renovated so parts of the hotel may look shabby. The room was clean and had a very island feel to it. We had a nice view of the bay! Great value!! Banyon Drive is a great place to go for a run!! The best hotel in Hilo by far!
