This page provides an introduction to all of Expedia’s services. More specific help is available throughout the site—just click the Help link on the navigation bar at the top of each page and detailed help will be displayed.

Click a topic below to quickly find the information you want.

Registering and signing in

Registration is free and requires only that you provide us with three basic pieces of information: User name, password, and your e-mail address. You won't be asked for a credit card number, name, or address until you decide to make a reservation or purchase. You can register right now if you wish. Once you have an account, you can sign in immediately upon visiting the site, or wait until you are ready to make your purchase. By signing in, you help us ensure that we're sending the right information to the right customer. Signing in involves supplying your User name and password. Optionally, Expedia can save this information on your computer for you, allowing you quicker access to all our services.

You may change your password at any time, but for security purposes you may not change your User name.

Shopping for flights

To search for flights, click Flight Wizard on the Expedia home page or Book a flight on the home page Expedia offers you several ways to search for flights: roundtrip, one-way, multiple destinations, by timetable, or using Fare Compare. To select the appropriate method for your search, click the corresponding tab in the upper-left margin. Although each search type (with the exception of timetable search and Fare Compare) will deliver only slightly different results based on your particular needs, the search method is similar in each case.

On the Search page, supply the information requested. Usually this includes your departure point and destination, travel dates, and the number of travelers in your party, as well as certain personal preferences. Once you're satisfied with the information you've provided, click Search at the bottom of the page.

The search will produce a list of fares and flights that closely match the search criteria you provide. You can review flight details for as many fares as you wish without committing yourself to a reservation or a purchase. You are not required to supply a credit card until you find the flight that serves your needs and indicate that you wish to make a reservation.

Using Fare Compare

Fare Compare is our fast and easy way to compare the prices you’re finding on Expedia with actual fares found and/or purchased by other customers. When you supply information about your arrival and departure points and the earliest date you might travel, we supply a list of the lowest fares in our database. Some fares are marked with a star, indicating that they’re at least 15 percent lower than average. You’ll be able to find information on all the airlines in our database, domestic as well as international. You’re not required to have an Expedia membership to use Fare Compare.

Timetable search

Use Timetable search to find flights based on departure time, regardless of price or availability. We’ll supply you with the departure schedule for all flights— just select the flight that interests you to view more details. Although you will be able to read the flight details, seats on the flight may not be available. Once you've found a flight with a convenient departure time, you can do a flight search to find out if this flight has available seating. If no seats are available, we’ll supply you with a list of similar flights that do have available seats. This option may result in a more expensive fare than a search for best-priced flights.

Arrivals and departures: finding out flight status

Arrivals and departures shows you information about the status of a flight. You can check the progress of a flight before you leave for the airport, or find out whether a flight is late or has been canceled, and then make your plans accordingly. Once you supply information about the airline that interests you, you have the option to search by specific flight number or review the airline’s complete flight schedule. We’ll supply the arrival and departure status for the flight you select.

Shopping for rental cars

To search for rental cars, click Car Wizard on the Expedia home page or Rent a car on the home page.

On the Search page, supply the information requested. This usually includes pickup and drop-off locations, rental dates, and certain personal preferences. Once you're satisfied with the information you've provided, click Search at the bottom of the page.

Shopping for hotel rooms

To search for hotel rooms, click Lodging Wizard on the Expedia home page or Reserve a room on the home page .

On the Search page, supply the information requested. This usually includes destination, arrival and departure dates, and certain personal preferences such as hotel chain. Once you are satisfied with the information you've provided, click Search at the bottom of the page.

The search will produce a list of hotels in the area of your destination that may serve your needs. You can review hotel and room details and check room availability for as many hotels as you wish without committing yourself to a reservation. You are not required to supply a credit card until you find the hotel that serves your needs and indicate that you wish to make a reservation.

Saving itineraries

When you make a reservation or tell us you want to save information, we store the details for you in a personal itinerary. An itinerary is like a folder that holds the flight, car rental, and hotel information for each trip. Itineraries are named with your first destination and date of arrival. You can view or change the information in an itinerary at any time, and you can always delete an itinerary that you no longer want to save. Your itineraries can be found on the home page at any time. For more information about itineraries, see Using itineraries to plan your travel.

Using internationally-based credit cards

For most travel bookings, Expedia accepts major credit cards issued by banks worldwide. However, due to technical, regulatory and/or other limitations, there are some countries for which we currently do not support foreign credit cards or billing addresses. In addition, please note that all cruise bookings currently require both a US-based credit card and billing address.

When entering your billing address on the 'Add a credit card' page, be sure to select "Non USA billing address" to enable the international billing address format. If you do not see your country listed, please try shopping for travel on one of our international sites.

Shopping for vacation packages and cruises

Vacation Wizard and Cruise Wizard help you choose from hundreds packaged trips and cruises. These trips are supplied by third parties and compiled by Expedia. We do not take reservations directly, nor do we save itineraries connected to these trips. We can, however, help you locate vacations and cruises that may serve your needs and interests, and link you to Web sites where you can get more information about your booking options.

To search for cruises or vacations, click Shop for vacations or Shop for cruises on the Expedia home page or on the home page. On the Search page, supply the information requested. This usually includes destination, preferred price, departure date, and certain personal preferences. Since these trips are prepackaged, we try to match your requests with the options mentioned in each listing.

The fewer options you select, the broader the range of results we can provide, since each option reduces the number of trips that match your specifications. Once you're satisfied with the information you've provided, click Search at the bottom of the page. The search will produce a list of vacations or cruises that most closely match the criteria you provided. You can view details here on our site, and get more information on any trip that interests you. Searching is free and doesn’t require registration.

Fare Tracker

Fare Tracker is a free service that lists the lowest airfares that other Expedia customers are finding for up to three destinations of your choice.

To receive Fare Tracker information, click Fare Tracker on the home page, and then supply information on destinations that interest you. You have the option of receiving Fare Tracker updates at your e-mail address or having them posted on your home page. On your home page, we’ll update these fares each day to keep you current with the going rates, and help you find the perfect fare for your trip.

Customer support

With Expedia, you're guaranteed customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can use our feedback form to send us e-mail for help at any time. We always put our toll-free telephone number at the top of your itinerary. You can also find our number on the Customer Support page. If you have any questions or concerns about your itinerary, our service representatives will be ready to assist you.
