This day trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius is limited to groups of 25 and includes lunch. Hike to the top of the crater for a fantastic view of the Bay of Naples below. Infamous for the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD, Vesuvius has erupted many times sinceand is today regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because 3 million people live in its immediate vicinity. See for yourself how lava flows have scarred the sides of the volcano, and are visible on the winding road up to the top. From the parking area, it is a 20-minute upward hike to the crater through soft volcanic ash and pumice, but the view from the top is well worth the while. Lunch follows the hike and includes slices of the world-famous pizza Naples is known for. The afternoon is yours to discover the now ruined city of Pompeii. In its heyday, it was a sprawling metropolis of shops and residences, restaurants, gyms, and brothels. Walk Pompeii's main streets just as the ancient Romans didthe stones are still worn with tracks from the drawn carriages that tread them nearly 2,000 years ago. Highlights include a visit to the forum, the center of Pompeii's political and social life, as well as view the startling plaster death casts of the victims of the catastrophic eruption that destroyed the cityfreezing forever in time their last second of life.
When a trip to Mt Vesuvius is not possible and during November and December, enjoy a visit of the Archeological Museum of Pompei. Discover an impressive collection of original artifacts, mosaics, statues, and artwork removed during the excavations of Pompeii.

The hike to the top of Mount Vesuvius is optional and requires a good level of general fitness to complete. The hike is uphill at a 14-degree angle and 20 minutes long (about 1 mile or 1.6 kilometers). Proper footwear, as well as a sweater or light jacket, is recommended. This tour is unable to accommodate guests with wheelchairs or mobility impairments.
If the crater of Vesuvius is closed due to inclement weather, an extended tour inside Pompeii will be offered.
