This is a small hotel that was a bit hard to find. The name is on the building, but it is easy to miss. It is on an older street, but the area nearby is fine. Limited desk hours, but the staff was friendly. It's a 15 minute pleasant downhill walk to the water with many small restaurants and bars along the way. Room w/bathroom was small and older, but was very adequate. They provide free parking a few streets away, but we lucked into a street spot nearby.

"Great Stay - Super Clean, Affordable, Well Located"
The value here in Europe is exceptional. The pictures and description are accurate and Hostal Azahara exceeded our expectations. Common areas and room were spotlessly clean and our beds were very comfortable. Most of the bathroom fixtures & finishes look new or caringly maintained. The owners were constantly touching up and working to keep things spotless and fresh - Very conscientious, kind and polite. The tourist district and beaches are a short walk through the main business street of town. The benefit is that you can experience the local vibe and local prices ....if you want to stop for a snack, coffee or drink along your walk to the beach area. Prices for shopping and food will naturally increase proportionately as you get closer to the beach. One reviewer compared this place to India ( Derek J from Witney, UK) That is entirely unfair or completely out of context. Overall, this was a real comfortable local place where real people enjoy their stay and come back regularly. We had some great conversations and met some wonderful personalities over morning coffee. Breakfast is simple/continental with self serve in the courtyard. Have realistic expectations. People who know where to stay, would stay here. As a father and son (Canadians) on a special trip to experience Spain together, we wanted to have an opportunity to stay in a broad cross section of towns and places. Hostal Azahara is a super deal in Nerja and we would stay here again.

Pocket Guide: Malaga Nerja 1 star Hotels

East of Malaga and one of the Costa del Sol’s quieter resorts, Nerja attracts a more mature traveller than its brasher neighbours, and sits atop low cliffs dropping down to enclosed beaches such as that of El Salón. The town’s focal point is the Balcón de Europa, a paved headland jutting out into the Mediterranean. The most popular attraction is the Nerja caves, large enough to house a concert hall hosting ballet and orchestra performances.
