"Stay at Uncle Billy's"
Enjoyed staying at Uncle Billy's. Nice breakfast. Easy to get to my room. Used to stay here frequently when my children were small. Lots of good memories. I live on the Big Island and appreciate all the warm sun of Kona. Everyone was welcoming and friendly.

"A classic experience "
The Manago is a trip back to a simpler era. The hotel is ideally placed on a ridge, benefiting from a constant cool breeze. The room was equipped with a ceiling fan and ample louvered windows; keeping comfortable and cool was no problem. Most rooms have a lanai (balcony). The garden on the coast side is populated with many birds and small animals, providing constant entertainment and a rooster was our alarm clock each morning. The bathroom was functional with a shower only. The facilities are not modern but that is part of the hotel's charm. There was no TV but there was a clock radio if you must have news. The wifi was being upgraded while we were there so service during late night hours was unpredictable. During normal hours it was fine. The bed was simple but comfortable, and the furniture older but functional. A traditional room key was provided. The hotel has an in-house restaurant with a fixed menu, and their pork chops are island-wide renowned for their flavour. Breakfasts were fantastic. The hotel accepts major credit and debit cards and the staff is really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay at the Manago. It was like a time trip back to the 1930s, calm, laid-back and unworried. Take the time to listen to the birds and relax on the lanai; it's worth it.

"The perfect Get Away BnB."
The Mango Sunset Bed and Breakfast experience was wonderful for both my wife and myself. Arriving from Kona airport, you only need to drive up the side of the mountain about 10-15 minutes and you're in the midst of an amazing array of coffee plants and fruit trees. We were greeted by Abby, the farm's dog and Inky, one of the cats. The owner and proprietor, Hans was there to explain the common area, wifi and bedroom. He was a very friendly and open individual and it was clear that he would look after us during our stay. Our bedroom was freshly made with a wonderful breeze coming in from the patio that has a lovely ocean view (you can see the airport, but can't hear the planes). The bathroom was also very clean with fresh towels ready to go. My wife and I enjoyed the morning breakfasts with the other guests and Hans and his wife Marsha very much. Always freshly made local food with an Hawaiian twist. We had the opportunity to use the grill outside to make some dinner as well. Supermarkets and the Farmers Market are a 15 minute drive down towards Kona. From the B&B, we had easy driving access to the whole island. Go left from the farm and you head towards the South Kona coast (great snorkeling areas) and go right and you can hit the North of the island, or take the Saddle Road East towards Hilo. Overall we are very pleased and happy with our experience on the Lyman Coffee Farm. The 'WOOFER' volunteers that were there to help also had a hand in our welcome.

"Not Just Another Hotel"
My wife and I took a chance with B.I.R. based on the positive reviews, and I could not be more satisfied with our decision to stay here. We had our reservations initially (NO AC?), but luckily that turned out to be a non-issue in early November (cool nights, blanket required). However, the star of this hotel turned out to be Gigi, who absolutely did everything possible to make our time here a wonderful experience. No matter what time of day we ran into her, she was always willing to stop what she was doing to talk to us, answer questions, give advice on activities, dining or how to get around and basically help us plan our day. It was like visiting a friend who already lived on the island. As for the room, we stayed in the Aloha Room which is a corner room with wrap-around balcony and just enough of an ocean view through the trees so that you knew you were close to the water. Luckily, the nights were cool enough that open windows and a blanket were comfortable. Access to a washer and dryer turned out to be a welcome bonus, as was the collection of snorkel gear that is available to guests. Parking can be a bit tricky at first, but it gets easier once you get used to it. There were other amenities available to guests, such as the communal cooking area, that we did not take advantage of but others might find convenient. In conclusion, I would describe Big Island Retreat as a great option for anyone who is looking for a relaxing atmosphere that is off the beaten path.

"Unique farm B&B in Hawaii"
Host and hostess are interesting, had unexpected tour of the farm, breakfast was amazing. Typical farm noises (chickens.) would describe it as cabin accommodations. Recommend it if you are up for something a little different than a standard hotel.
