"Comfortable hotel in traditional Chinese "hutong""
The Jingshan Courtyard hotel is a breath of fresh air. Several of the hotels we stayed at during our China trip were modern international hotels. But we wanted our first hotel to give us more of the “China” experience. The Jingshan Courtyard Hotel did that. It is located down a narrow alley in a “hutong” : traditional Chinese neighborhood with streets not designed for cars. You can’t take a taxi to the hotel’s door, although it was an easy, well-marked, two minute walk from the nearby main street, Jingshan Park Street. After stepping though the simple lobby of the hotel, you are presented with a breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. The rooms are well-appointed, and the bathroom was spacious with a very comfortable modern shower. Note: For those who have trouble with stairs, there is no elevator, and the breakfast room is on the second floor. Our room came with breakfast included. The breakfast area is a beautiful wooden room with a delicious buffet. An omelet and a cup of fresh brewed espresso is included. The location is ideal, across the street from famous Jingshan Park, which overlooks the Forbidden City. The hotel is walking distance from the North Gate of the Forbidden City. It is also a short ride on the 111 electric trolley bus to the tourist shopping district. I will caution that the Chinese like their beds extra firm, and these beds were the firmest of the several hotels we stayed in. (By our last night, I felt I would get bruises if I slept another night

"Hot room in Beijing"
We had a family room, this gave us two large room with a door between one king sized bed and two single in the other room. The room were reasonably clean for the price, about $100 a night for the four of us. The room is definitely dated with a decor that reminded me of the seventies,

"Better than it ever was."
I have stayed at the Xinqiao many times (as many as 20) over the years, and always feel comfortable there. The greatest improvement over the years is the quality of the staff. With one or two exceptions, the present staff (in all areas) were friendly, smiling, helpful ... The coffee lounge staff and the doormen were particularly pleasant and helpful, each in their own way. Several people have remarked that the breakfasts are not as good as they used to be. I thought they were OK, and I particularly appreciated the 24 hour service in the restaurant and the coffee shop. I was in Block A. It was perfectly adequate, but I was amazed at the loud clunking coming from the water pipes from time to time. Several people have noted that the Xinqiao needs a good deal of refurbishment. The bathroom was OK but dated from about 1980, I would guess. Location is good and easy to locate. Walking distance to Dong'an market and Wangfujing (if not raining or too cold). A good family hotel, but the bloodcurdling screams of children running around can be a bit off-putting for people who prefer a quieter environment. Nevertheless, I will certainly be staying there next time I go to Beijing.

"Outdated yet nice hotel"
Good location, staff was a little lost and we had some problems communicating (language barrier). A bit outdated and a non-pristine cleanliness, but all was well.

"Great hotel, excellent location for getting around"
Located in the hutongs between 2 subways this hotel is great for getting around Beijing easily. From the airport get the subway to yongechong lama temple temple and take exit c turn left out of here and walk down the road, cross over at confuscus temple and keep down the same road. Fangia hutong is on the right a short way down. The hotel is quite a walk up there and the entrance is after a library type bar on the right. The bar owners around there will help if you can't find it, it's through some large gates. The hotel staff speak a little English but the manager is very helpful. The breakfasts are good value for £2, they have toast, eggs, fruit, yoghurt and Chinese. Explore the area there are some great sights! The rooms are quite small but very clean and well stocked with water and toiletries. The towels are very soft and the bed linen excellent. I would definitely stay there again.

"Comfortable hotel"
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for four nights. It was quiet, and generally comfortable although the bathroom grout was very moldy. The hotel provided two free bottles of water every day which was very welcome. The breakfast was plentiful and had both Chinese and Western choices. It is located on a narrow alley (hutong) which had several tiny places to eat and local produce. It was interesting to walk through it in the morning and see all the fresh produce being delivered.

"Good location behind the Forbidden City"
We had an overall pleasant stay in the Sha Tan Hotel for 2 nights. The hotel looks very fancy at the entrance but this can be misleading. The staff were friendly and spoke basic English at the least, which made check-in easy. The basic twin room looked nice but we noticed some old stains on the mats (not that it bothered us much). Overall a good choice for the low-budget traveller, but if willing to invest a few bucks more, I'd recommend another hotel at a better location. Positives: 1. Friendly staff 2. Comfortable beds, clean enough 3. Air conditioning was surprisingly good Negatives: 1. Rather low water pressure from the shower and sink 2. No windows, the room smelled a bit like tobacco or such 3. Despite the close proximity to the Forbidden City, you actually have to walk at least 30 minutes to reach the entrance (cannot enter from the North Gate) and Tiananmen Square. The closest subway station is also about 15 minute walk away. 4. Wi-Fi was very weak and most of the time did not work.
