We normally stay at hotels in Brighton when visiting the area with our dogs, which are good but costs add up when you pay a nightly fee for dogs and at least £15 per night parking. We weren't sure about staying in a pub in case it was noisy, but it was absolutely fine. The hosts are very welcoming, and the accommodation is fine. The room and en suite were quite small and the ensuite could do with a refurb, but both were perfectly functional for a couple of nights. The hotel side could generally do with a spruce up but overall it's good value for money.

"A typical market town hotel old fashioned comfort."
A gently decaying market town hotel. Clean enough on the surface but needs extensive redecoration and replacement of carpets etc.
A lovely warm swimming pool; although the Jacuzzi was freezing.
Notwithstanding the above it has a lovely quirky charm and is in an excellent position to explore the town. Good value for money as long as you don'r expect too much. Serves an excellent pint of Harveys Best.

"Reasonable hotel for an overnight or short break"
We used The Forge as an overnight stop whilst touring the area. The location was quiet despite being on a main junction and the rooms had adequate, clean and spacious facilities but they could do with some further enhancement/updating for our taste. We visited the Buxted Inn for our evening meal which was about 15 mins away and served delicious meals. The breakfast at the Forge was generous and tasty and the waiter and Reception staff were pleasant and friendly. Good value.
