First, the location is magical. The island of Miyajima is located about 30 minutes from Hiroshima. The local train and ferry are JR, so they are included in a JR rail pass if you have one. At night, the lights come on and the island feels just like the movie "Spirited Away." The hotel is about a 20-25 minute walk from the shuttle station-- it is a beautiful walk, with "floating" shrines and pagodas along the way. There are also deer EVERYWHERE. They come right up to you and you can pet them. Watch out as they may grab any food or paper you have on you. The hotel has a free shuttle once you arrive on the island you can request, and there were also a small number of taxi's waiting. The hotel has very nice traditional Japanese-style rooms. You are given a "yakata" kimono to wear around the hotel grounds. I wish my girlfriend and I could have gone into the hot spring baths together, but alas, like other ryokans, they are separated by sex. There are some coin-operated massage chairs. The Western breakfast (offered on day 2 of our stay) was unexpected and not as good as the Japanese-style breakfast offered on the first day. If possible to request Japanese-style breakfast both days, I would try and do that. Everything was great overall, highly recommend.

"Very nice ryokan with an amazing onsen! "
Love the onsen in this Ryokan. Love the traditional futons and tatami mats. Love the staff as they are super friendly and super helpful! They even shuttle bus guests to and from the main station. The staff were so helpful with organising and filling in our luggage delivery paperwork and even provided our next hotel with courtesy call to advise the luggage would be arriving. LOVE IT!

"Best staff"
Miyajima is ranked as one of the top three scenic spots in Japan, and we enjoyed our visit because we were able to spend a night on the island at Hotel Kikunoya. We arrived at the ferry terminal and requested for the Information Desk to call the hotel for us for courtesy pick-up. Our driver was very friendly, and told us about Miyajima. Our room and bed were small but expected. The room had a toilet and sink. Two yukatas were folded on the bed for us but were too large so we requested smaller sizes to wear to the public baths. I showered late and had the onsen to myself. The hotel was a downhill walk to the Omotesando, Machiya Dori, and Itsukushima Shrine. I recommend the shrine first thing in the morning before the tourists arrive, and try to go when tide is low so you can touch the floating tori gate. The hotel was also a quick walk to the Momijidani Park and to the Daisho-in temple (both of which have hiking trails to the Ropeway). We paid for breakfast but opted out of dinner. The town closes early but the hotel had information on late night eats. Our breakfast was tasty. We chose the Japanese breakfast which had unlimited rice and miso soup. There was a staff member working in the dining room during breakfast that was fluent in English and helped us arrange a courtesy shuttle to the ferry terminal. However upon checkout a different staff person was at the front desk. Our shuttle didn't come so they arranged for a private car to rush us to the terminal.

"hotel is close to Itsukushima shrine"
very quiet and cosy place to stay. Just that you need to share bathroom, but there is private toilet in the room. Inset sounds can be hear all days during summer. It's cool!

"Miyajima Island"
Travelled to Miyajima and wanted to stay on the island for close proximity to shopping, hikiing and shirine. This hotel was perfect for our stay and the hotel owners are the nicest people. After spending all day on our feet walking and hiking around the island, the co-ed private bath really felt great. Its location, comfort and nice staff will definitely have me coming back in the future.

We have visited Miyajima with friends and got a room in this hotel really last minute. What was pleasing is that the staff made an to make sure that the traditional Japanese food was adopted somwhat to a wstern taste. The hotel is really close to the pier which is a plus and somewhat away from the busy high street. Grat experience overal.

"Experience Authentic "Onsen Ryokan" in Miyajima"
This is a historical upper-class ryokan that the current Emperor of Japan has stayed, albeit in a special cottage, while he was a young crowned prince. It's located close by to Itsukushima Shrine, yet hidden in a quaint passage. Our room was located at the top floor of the 5-story building and was facing a great view of the Torii, the sea, the near-by Buddhist temple's pagoda, and the mountain hills. It is the only ryokan with natural hot spring on this side of Miya-jima, so you can get two birds with one stone; experience of a very authentic Japanese onsen and a visit to a World Heritage site. Our stay included half-board, with teas/coffees with Japanese sweets in our room upon our arrival, many toiletry amenities--including hair brush, toothbrush with toothpaste, razor, yukata-bathrobe while you stay, a pair of socks perfumed and dyed with cloves, a cloth handy-sack for taking your toiletry to baths, etc. Found in the bath areas are shampoo, conditioner, body soap, Q-tips, facial wash, facial toner/lotion bottles. Our room is with shoji window screens in a traditional Japanese tatami mats, and we slept in futon that the ryokan ladies laid out for us after dinner. They provide gender-separated onsen-baths, and switches bathing area by time. Rotenburo (outdoor bath) is especially memorable for its view and sound of running creeks and tree-covered adjacent bank. FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH JAPANESE ONSEN, PLEASE RESEARCH AHEAD & FOLLOW THEIR BATHING INSTRUCTIONS!

"First Ryokan Experience"
Coming from the US and wanting to experience a Japanese style hotel, we thought that this would be a nice one to try. We were planning to spend one night in Hiroshima and visit Miyajima as well. The location and the fact that this hotel hotel has private bathrooms were key factors in our choice (communal bathrooms aren't for us). From the outside, this looks like an ordinary hotel. When you enter, the staff has slippers laid out for you and they store your shoes. You wear the slippers everywhere in the hotel and take them off when you enter your room. Our room was a clean, elegant, tatami room, with a nice view of the inland sea and Hiroshima across the way. The room included a Kaiseki (Japanese style) dinner and choice of Japanese or regular breakfast, we opted for the Japanese choice. At the time you specify (up until 7:30pm, I think), your dinner is brought to your room and served at the table. The food was outstanding. After dinner, when you're ready, another person comes to your room and lays out the futon bedding. It was very comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was in one of the halls on the second floor and the Japanese choice had miso soup, rice, and salmon. It also was outstanding. The two meals here were highlights of a trip that included some amazing food where ever we went. I could easily have stayed here a couple more nights just for the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere
