"Mini vacation in NOLA"
The Hotel was very close to Bourbon and Royal and a quick walk from Decatur. We had breakfast in the cafe our first day it was excellent. The staff was very friendly, as was nearly everyone we met in New Orleans. The quiet courtyard in the hotel bar turned out to be one of the most enchanting parts of a very a very enchanting city. Excellent value.

"Great facilities with awesome staff."
Arrived at the hotel a couple of hours early and expected to wait until check-in time. Instead, they made another room available so we could check in early and freshen up after our road trip. That set the tone for the rest of the stay. The were friendly and accommodating with anything we needed. The hotel itself was very nice and clean. Our room was nicely furnished and felt like it belonged in the French Quarter. Down pillows and comforters were very comfortable. Bathroom was impeccable. The door to our little balcony was a little difficult to open, but it locked securely. The hotel had a nice little courtyard if you needed a little break from the busy quarter. The hotel itself was one block from Bourbon St and we walked everywhere.

"Gracious living"
For this first time in NOLA we packed in an overview of all the neighbourhoods (mainly on foot) that included Uptown, The Garden District, The Warehouse District, The French Quarter, Treme, Marigny and our home base in Bywater. Our taste runs to ferreting out the authentic in communities and the Bywater won hands down with runners up being Treme, Marigny and calmer parts of the French Quarter. To get the best of music requires at least a week because many performers only appear once in that time frame. We had a ball and now know enough to be selective when we return.

The Biscuit Palace

730 Dumaine, New Orleans 70116 - Map
"Funky fun"
This is NOT a hotel - get that straight! This is an old building once known as the Oneeda Biscuit factory that has been converted into the Biscuit Palace. No two rooms are alike in any form or fashion and saying they are "unique" would be an understatement. The Palace Suite, is a HUGE grandfloor apartment, that is so funky it's almost impossible to define it. The floral carpet is about as old as the bedding and the HUGE paintings hung but it all works together perfectly. The funky hand painted French Quarter art above the doors and ceiling is unique - there's a cool now decorative fireplace, kitschy hand painted/distressed moldings, great little kitchenette with microwave, pantry, full size coffee pot with coffee, huge bathroom with more storage, an odd bathtub that worked fine but the shower was difficult to figure out, little bifolding doors for the toilet area, and just lots of funk everywhere. Your room has one door but it's the first room as you enter the property and the beautiful courtyard adjoins it. Clayton, the Proprietor, is probably the nicest guy you'll find anywhere and he'll work with you in any way possible if you're running late or needing information. If you drive there, he'll provide you with a guest parking permit - you do NOT get this with any hotel - plus there is no extra charge for it. Across from the Clover Grill - great 24 hr breakfast - and down from Lafitte's Blacksmith shop (bar). Location is great - price is great - memory is great !!!!
