"Moderate room facilities, great pub and restaurant"
The room was small, and the shared bathroom only had a bath tub, no shower. Everything was clean though. The staff is very friendly. De pub is great and the food is suberb. I had a 'Geordie chop' and it was excellent.

"Lovely hotel, peaceful surroundings and excellent "
We spent 3 nights here. Everything about the hotel was a pleasure, from the peaceful surroundings to the friendly competence of Ian the manager. The choice of breakfast was good and the food excellent. We would highly recommend it and hope to return ourselves.

"Nice Hotel, not in Morpeth"
This is a lovely pub/hotel. The room very spacious, very clean and modern. Very new, comfortable bed. Lovely staff, decent pub food and friendly ambience. My only gripe is that Expedia suggests the pub is in Morpeth. It isn't. It is over eight miles away from Morpeth. This isn't what I expected, as the address suggested it was Front St Morpeth. I drove to the town, without Sat Nav, as that's easy enough. When I got there, I found it was another eight miles away. A bit misleading, as I'd planned a night in the town and had business in the town the following day.

"staying at Clennell Hall"
We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the experience. Clennell Hall was quiet and peaceful with lovely grounds and the adjacent caravan and camping sites were appropriate and unobtrusive. Food was excellent and there was good entertainment in the bar at the weekend. The bar was also well stocked and provided a good meeting place to chat to people camping in the grounds. The informality of the hotel made it a relaxing venue and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Shaftoe's Bed and Breakfast

"Wonderful B&B, wonderful stay"
I stayed four nights at Shaftoe's, and the entire experience was a delight. The room in which I stayed was essentially a suite: a spacious and comfortable bedroom with plenty of storage, a separate desk/vanity area, and bathroom. Everything was sparkling clean, serviced daily, and tastefully decorated. I appreciated the extra touches in the room, such as the hospitality tray, vanity mirror, free wifi. When I checked in, I was greeted by Lindsay, a bubbly and friendly person, who handed me all sorts of brochures and information about attractions in the area (largely Hadrian's Wall related) and bus schedules. All of which were greatly appreciated and well used during my stay. Lindsay continued to be a perfect host throughout my stay, and was charming to chat with, as well as very helpful with any queries and very accommodating. I brought in carry out one night, and Lindsay provided me with cutlery and a tray for more comfortable eating in my room. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, and there were many options to suit any taste or dietary needs. I enjoyed the opportunity to converse with other guests as everyone was generally seated at the same large table for breakfast. Shaftoe's is very conveniently located just down the street from buses, a pub and other restaurants, and across a picturesque bridge (over the Tyne River) from stores and the rail station. It was perfectly located for my explorations of Hadrian's Wall country. Highly recommended!

Noisy fan from kitchen turning on and off all night. Restaurant only open 2 nights of the week so had to eat next door in the pub, which was fine but limited menu.

"Fantastic friendly staff and lovely food !"
Possible negatives : We didn't mind the noise from the bar which goes on until about midnight, but you do need to be aware that it is loud. The bathroom was very tiny indeed, and the location of the shelf over the sink made it difficult to use the sink to clean your teeth without hitting your head, so great care is needed - and yes, the carpets and decor of the public spaces are pretty tired and in need of a good sprucing up, no doubt about it. Positives: So,provided none of the above worries you, then we would recommend it, as the people (staff and locals alike) are friendly and welcoming, the food is good, the cosy open fire is lovely - and the king size bed was super-comfortable too :-)
