"Fawlty Towers, but in a great location. "
In a country, Barbados, where everything is either old, or very old, this is considered quite a new and good hotel, but if it was in the United States, it would be just okay. Ah, those magical words "location, location, location."
Soco Hotel needs a small renovation, it looks a little tired, but it is comfortable and works well for 24 suites. We were treated very well. We enjoyed the meals tremendously, lots of fish and fruit, and some of the desserts were wonderful! Wines were served at all meals, except breakfast of course, but were only mediocre: you could always buy your own somewhere else. The bar was open 10:00 am to 11:00 pm daily. Draft and bottled beer, wine and spirits of all kinds were available, and cocktails were prepared on demand.
What we enjoyed most was the beach, where we swam and snorkeled and sunbathed a lot. There was an amazing variety of fish and other sea creatures to view in the rocks and coral; bring your underwater camera.
Hotel staff were generally very helpful and pleasant, with a few notable exceptions, and made the stay a wonderful experience. We left feeling very happy and satisfied.
Although the hotel description includes a roof top patio and an onsite spa, we saw no evidence of them. We would not have used either so we did not ask about these. Premium, terrace tables (2) should be reserved in advance and monitored as the maitre d' sometimes "forgets" the reservation.
