"Old World Charm"
Over the past 4 years, while my daughter has been attending UC Berkeley, I have stayed at several hotels in the area, and my favorite is the Claremont. Even though is is old (going through renovations now) I find it very welcoming and comfortable. The decor is traditional, so if you are looking for a hip modern hotel this is not for you. But, if you want to be comfortable, have a nice meal, lay by the pool, visit the spa, take a spin, pilates or water exercise class or workout in the gym, this is the place for you! They have everything that a resort hotel should have, and I'm sure that the hotel will be just that much better after the renovations are finished.

Pocket Guide: Oakland Berkeley 4 stars Hotels

The city’s radical spirit has endured at least on Telegraph Avenue by the UC Berkeley campus. Upscale shops have moved into the once industrial Fourth Street district. Foodies flock to the Gourmet Ghetto, which began in the 1970s with Chez Panisse. Berkeley Hills’ residents enjoy bay views and access to Tilden Park’s 2,000 acres. Visitors to the marina can stroll on the pier and explore the parks.
