"Nice, clean hotel too far from metro station"
Nice clean hotel Enjoyed stay Food good but expensive watch out for the table charge for sitting down to eat Metro station is far away to walk esp with children at least half an hour and it the heat it is hard work There is a bus stop outside the hotel, but no clear timetable and staff do not know when it comes so its a bit hit and miss On the way back we stopped outside the metro for food and a taxi back to hotel reasonable Bus back from metro station is caught further back from the station so ask reception

"Inexpensive base for young tourists in Rome"
We are a young (mid-twenties) couple who were looking for a cheap and pleasant base from which to spend our days out exploring Rome, and we were not disappointed. A lot of the less positive reviews seem to come from a place of misplaced expectations. This is a modestly priced hotel in a busy tourist city, so for people travelling on a budget who are prepared to forego a few luxuries you couldn't do better than this hotel. Yes, the rooms are small. And yes, it is in a less glamorous part of town (there are prostitutes on the streets at night - I advise against family stays - and it is next door to a university). But the rooms are very clean and well-furnished, the staff are lovely, and it's in an extremely convenient location 10 minutes walk from a well-connected metro station (three stops to the Colosseum). Recommend the €18 three-day unlimited travel pass. Also breakfast is great, but not for the fry-up lover - good selection of breads, cereals, cold meats and cheese, and pastries. It's Europe, so when in Rome... So, for young people or those travelling on a budget without children, who just want somewhere decent to sleep between adventures into Rome, this place is just about perfect.

"This hotel is well situated regarding the Metro"
The hotel is a decent ride from the airport, close to a Metro station which will take you right into the historical heart of Rome in just a few stops. The only non-atractive side is that there are no night activities close by. We did enjoy our stay in it.

"Very nice Marriott!"
Very nice hotel. Staff very pleasant, professional and helpful. Had a layover in Rome before heading back to the states. Love the large tub and separate bathroom area for the tub. Room was clean and very comfortable. The view from our window of Rome was very nice also. Will definitely stay here again.

"Shangri La - Not heaven, but good enough"
Reasonably priced, and a 10 minute walk from the Fermi Metro station - taking cabs into town will be expensive if you are staying for more than a couple of days. My room was in the garden annex, and there was a lot of traffic noise from 6am to 11pm. Clean, tidy and reasonably modern room, breakfast was limited to cereal, bread, cheese, ham and a selection of sweet cake. The only hot choice was a giant tray of scrambled egg, which appeared to be as old as the Colosseum. The onsite restaurant was expensive, the food was lackluster and the staff ignorant of you are not Italian. Allowing smoking inside the restaurant is unacceptable, but the Italians don't appear to care. Reasonable value for money - it was good enough for a business stay, but I'm not sure that my family would have been so happy.

Hotel Dei Congressi

"Pleasant backwater hotel with excellent restaurant"
But, it's actually an easily accessible backwater from central Rome. About 30 minutes walk and metro to the Colosseum for example. Would be little more to and from Termini main station. The walk to the hotel is about 10 minutes with a modest number of steps up from the metro. Being in a backwater makes the Congressi economical ... and quiet, unlike most central Rome hotels. I discovered the Congressi when visiting my company's office not far away, and returned for a cheap holiday mainly because I do very much like the restaurant, La Glorietta. Roman and other Italian staples done perfectly; a decently wide-ranging wine list, modestly priced enough to order a whole bottle even if one doesn't drink it all; attentive service; and a warm atmosphere. The EUR district is appealingly but not excessively run down, its triumphal architecture still handsome, yet with a domestic feel. And indeed, this dream suburb conceived by Mussolini has matured into an understandably quite popular place to live for middle income people. Feels very safe - all you see are ordinary local citizens going about their business. Rooms are fine, fairly modern, with small but well decorated bathrooms or shower rooms.

"Decent hotel, but expected better from a Sheraton"
Overall good room, but mine didn't have tea/coffee facilities, nor a fridge, my mates room did, breakfast was below average for price of room/breakfast. Desk staff were very helpful though.

"Far from the centre, but very comfortable"
The most frustrating thing about this hotel is the process to sign on to WiFi. The codes given by the front desk say they are for 3 devices, but I was never able to use for more than 2 devices.

"Great hotel"
The hotel is very comfortable with spacious rooms and the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The cleaning service was also excellent. It is a fair distance from the centre of Rome but as we were staying for over a week and don't mind the odd bus ride that wasn't a problem for us. Once you've done the bus and metro trip into Rome once or twice it's actually very easy to get in and out and we never waited long for a bus. The only thing that disappointed us about the hotel was the leisure facilities which is a big part of why we booked that hotel. The swimming pool, spa, restaurant/pizzeria and gym etc. is not actually onsite at the hotel and is in the leisure centre next door to the hotel. You do get free access to much of it but it's open to the public and the swimming pool is always busy with locals doing lengths, which takes away from the holiday atmosphere. We also didn't get to go in the outdoor pool as it wasn't opened whilst we were there, despite good weather. Also, there are no tea or coffee facilities inside the rooms and when I went to get a cup of tea from the restaurant next door, they wouldn't let me take the tea myself but instead follwed me to my room with the tray just so that they could charge an extra 6 euros for room service! Aside for those minor points, the hotel was brilliant. The bed was comfy and the room air conditioned and if you had the window shut it was very quiet and peaceful. Again, the staff were amazing and spoke flawless English.

A couple of miles south of the city centre, EUR takes its name from Esposizione Universale di Roma, built for an exhibition in 1942. The bombastic architecture was then intended to glorify Fascism, but now is home to shops, cinemas and clubs and exhibitions. Within the marble halls there are also three very good museums, including the fascinating Museum of Roman Civilization.
