"Our 5th time at this hotel."
Mahekal keeps getting better and better! They've undergone another round of renovations, this time to takeover the old Las Palapas next door, and in doing so, added two pools, rooms & additional dining options. Even though there are 180+ rooms, you never feel crowded, or know that there are this many guests, because of the well thought out (& immaculate!) grounds. The vibe is upscale & eclectic, with a lovely mix of authentic, high quality, pieces, with rustic notes, and lots of comfort. For us, it's all about the trifecta ... ambience, service & quality. Mahekal hits all these points! The rooms are very comfortable, with soft linens, plenty of towels & complimentary bottled water, great lighting, & lots of closet space. Plus, each has their own exterior space. We had a deck with lounge chairs, hammocks & a table set. The choices! The pools are all lovely, with a combination of ocean and jungle views, lounge beds & chairs, beach towels, all with drink & food service. Don't miss the beautiful jungle pool! We didn't even try the beach this time, as the pools kept us occupied. But, the beach has been greatly improved, as the storms and time had eaten it away over time ... it's now back to it's former glory. Half board includes breakfast & your choice of lunch or dinner. Breakfast has all that you could want, we ate every morning at the beachside restaurant. For us, we prefer a late lunch, and to grab tacos in town for dinner. Overall, we felt that lunch was a better value.
