"Comfortable hotel, conveniently located"
This was my first visit to Iceland and it was, on the whole, an enjoyable experience. Stayed at Room With a View on a recommendation. The location is ideal as it's in the center of downtown, easy walking distance to pretty much any of the myriad of restaurants, cafes, bookstores, nightclubs, museums and clothing stores. Reykjavik itself is a clean, modern city with tourists from all over Europe, the U.S. and Asia. The local Icelanders are friendly and helpful. If you like seafood, you will not be disappointed. Everywhere we ate, the food was fresh and well-prepared. The highly rated places were on par with similar restaurants in other cities, however I'd say the quality of the food was just as good at some of the smaller, lesser-known places, so you need not break the bank in order to eat well here. Buses that take you on the various day tours will usually pick you up right in front of the hotel, though if you're on a larger tour bus, they will drop you off several blocks away- about a five minute walk. The hotel is located right near several bar/restaurants so you will hear some of the revelry from your room, depending on which side you face. Personally, I did not find this to be a problem. The front desk people were, for the most part, helpful and friendly. You can book any of the day trips/ tours through them. The hardwood floors, high ceilings and recessed lighting are a nice touch. Our room had a nice shower and giant soaking tub with jacuzzi.
